I suspect somebody back there is thinking that if they don't create an app that works on a smartphone that they'll be left dead in the water.

Maybe they should. I guess, like most things, it all comes down to money. But, for example, I'd probably leave if Eclipse is the only choice, and I pay a 'dues' here.

I even used to buy a lot of art here, but now my walls are full.

It was definitely something else. I don't recall a hurricane moving up on us so quickly or going so fast. We actually did not get a whole lot of rain out of it. I almost suspect that centrifugal force was keeping it up in the clouds. The trees did get their yoga workout, a few branches came down and the power's been out (I'm at the library), but on the whole it was not that bad. The house was spared and no one was hurt - couldn't ask for much more than that.

If this is the new standard though there are a few trees on the property that will be coming down in the near future. Hate to see them go, but compared to some places we really did luck out.

Good! I was hoping you'd check in soon; was just talking to my wife about you. "No telling with this guy; he might have boarded up and went to Alaska, or he's flooded in and playing D&D on his roof right now."  

Seriously, glad you're okay and things weren't a lot worse. When we got hit our power was out for a week; any idea how long you're looking at? Do you have a generator? Obviously not for computers and such, but for the fridge and fans?

Believe it or not, I live on a hill - in Florida - so flooding is not a problem but I am aching all over from hauling off branches. Alaska is sounding better every day.

Actually, emergency services really kicked into gear with this one. The power came back this afternoon and the internet came on a few hours ago so we're good. All in all, the storm was worse than Hermine but the recovery went a lot better. That time we went for a week without power and the temp was in the high 90's. That was brutal. I feel sorry for the people at Mexico Beach and Panama City. At the last minute Michael skirted north of us while Hermine cut right through the center of town. If Michael had hit us directly I'm not sure if anything would be left standing.

I did learn a neat trick this time. Clean and save your gallon orange juice jugs. We had four on hand which we filled with water and stuck in the freezer just as soon as the news of the coming storm hit us. I cranked the refrigerator up to max and they froze solid in about 24 hours. Unlike bags of ice they stayed frozen too, so we didn't lose anything in the freezer or the refridge when the power went out.

I guess I could buy a power generator, but truth be told I hate those damn things. They create a hell of a racket. If anything, car manufacturers should offer a built in power generator that runs off the engine. That I would buy in an instant.

The Mayan calendar ran out back in 2012. That should have been the end right there but a distant echo of our collective desire to rock has been working like glue to hold the place together. That eminent weirdness of this day and age is the result of our drifting farther and farther away from all of that head banging. Only Twisted Sister going back on tour can save us now from a complete unraveling of reality.

Or so I've been told...
