Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-08-24 01:47:01 +0000 UTC]

I finally have time to draw now that it's the summer, so it's really nice to be able to do that again!
Kinda slowly easing myself back into it; trying to improve on my digital lineart digital never was my strong suit

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-08-24 04:15:36 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad, I'm glad!
I'm happy you're taking the time to improve where you can! What program are you using?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-08-25 00:50:11 +0000 UTC]

I'm using Sai! There are so many functions on there and it's going to take me a while to figure everything out aha
I really want to improve my lineart, I'm so jealous of the people who have nice smooth outlines :<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-08-25 03:42:28 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah! The Stabilizer setting up top will help you with smooth lines! The higher the number, the slower your strokes (and in turn, the smoother your lines!) Adjust and test out which ones you like best (You can even set up different Stabilizer setting for different brushes, but that's for another time), because slow/smooth doesn't alway feel the best for you! If you need more help, I'd be glad to tell you what I know or link some tutorials!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-08-29 05:55:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm familiar with Stabilizer, but the different Stabilizer settings for different brushes sounds intriguing, I wasn't aware you could do that!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-08-29 10:28:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah! It's pretty handy when you don't wanna constantly change up the main Stabilizer! Right-click the brush and press Options, then Bob's your uncle! Stroke Stabilizer and Pressure Stabilizer (though I don't know how Pressure Stabilizer works, haven't played around with it )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-08-30 06:34:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that's so helpful! I'll be sure to give it a spin, it sounds great!Β
Speaking of art, what have you been up to?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-08-30 10:30:59 +0000 UTC]

Awesome awesome!
Art's meh, some doodles but otherwise pretty dead.
Is SAI treatin' ya alright?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-08-31 06:27:40 +0000 UTC]

Ah same, I never have enough motivation to draw these days (digitally especially since there's more work involved hah)
Sai is great, I really like the numerous options and how (relatively) user friendly it is!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-01 11:52:35 +0000 UTC]

Mhm. It's convenient when I want to because my tablet's right next to my bed, but it's only ever doodles lately
Once you get used to the interface and get some good inspo from looking up brush settings and things, it's pretty user-friendly! There's even a SAI MASTERPOST Β about SAI's interface that you can check out!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-02 03:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Whoa, that masterpost is really comprehensive! I'll be sure to take the time to read everything, I'll bet it's a huge help.Β
What kind of tablet do you have? Mine's pretty old.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-04 02:49:05 +0000 UTC]

Super-duper! It's helped me a couple times too!
Euuugh, a Wacom Graphire 4. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle and while it's dusty and worn it still gets the job done. The small size is good for holding it in bed and I took the covering off the top so I have more space to actually draw on

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-04 06:49:05 +0000 UTC]

Ah, mine is a Wacom Intuos. Not sure how old that is, but it's at least 3-4 years old. Again, gets the job done.Β
I used those tips of yours on my latest drawing--thank you again for that! You draw in bed? I could never do that--my laptop has terrible battery life and I like working at tables

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-04 23:42:19 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh I see you right now! Intuos are like the Holy Tablet usually, I'm glad it's still working for you!
That piece was really nice, I liked the colors and shades! It's no issue for me to send you more tips if you need 'em! I got a whole arsenal!
Yeah aaaaa I just leave my laptop on my lap and peek over my tablet to draw, I'm too lazy to get up and use my desk unless I'm working traditionally (which is rare nowadays). It's good you like working at tables, as long as you take breaks and stretch! It's good for your hand posture, I believe

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-05 05:32:13 +0000 UTC]

The Holy Tablet?? Are they that old? I had no idea!Β
Ahhh thank you so much for that compliment--it means a lot to me (especially coming from you!)Β
I'm a traditional turn(ing) digital artist, so the transition's a little janky (my trad lineart is great but coloring can get hectic and vice versa for digital) so it's going to take some time getting used to assuming I don't quit halfway through aha
Also, bold of you to assume I take breaks at the table :> hahaha I'm terrible to my hands

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-05 09:24:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, I mean an Intuos is usually the tablet everybody wants or has aaaaaa They're pretty popular!
Awww you're welcome hun! (XIERNKNGKN WHAT)
Oh yeah, it was the same for me when I transitioned to tablet (since I had to use a trackpad and vectors for digital art, NOT good for the fingers), I think it's all a matter of setting up the brushes/Stabilizer to something you can work with, and then practicing sketching out different things like profiles, faces, whatever your favorite thing is in traditional. Build up your experience! Your digital style will usually be different than on paper, but that's okay! Experiment and see what fits you! Keep and take away elements from your tradish style! I'm sure you can do it!
Also NOOOOO highkey same, I grip my pen too hard and my hand/fingers just LOSE it. Not fun at all

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-08 06:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I had no idea the Intuos was that popular! To be honest, if the tablet works, it's great! low standards
Also yes you, you amazing person, you deserve that compliment!Β
What are trackpads and vectors like...it sounds complicated (I remember when I tried digital and was mouse-arting my way through dA muro...those were dark times....)
I'm part of the grip the pen too hard club...my hands scream at me after I sit down for a long time and draw

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-08 22:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! It's pretty popular! And I saw this post about Intuos that made me want to show ya (just in case!) I'd be too intimidated by big tablets tbh*also has low standards*
AS DO YOU, EXCUSE YOU!
Well if you had a laptop, a trackpad is the little pad where you put your finger down and move the mouse through that! (I wish I at least could do mouse-art, much less finger strain). Vectors is pretty much like this:Β Vector Line Art , where you click to place down a line and then pull out certain points to make it curve and such (I never did the Pressure/Weight parts though, so no depth in the slightest... dark times indeed)
OH GOD A MOOD! Just make sure you don't do it to the point it locks in place for a moment, it's really not fun like that

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-09 04:00:32 +0000 UTC]

I actually found out about those nibs a while ago! My tablet was being janky it still is, the pressure doesn't work on my eraser or brush and I was wondering if it was the nibs that were the problem. Almost bought new nibs and then found the nibs hidden in the tablet....thanks wacom.
Ahh so you use the lineart setting, got it. I never had the patience to adjust the vector pressure ahahah....it was too much trouble. I really wish I can permanently fix my pressure issue.Β

Have your hands ever locked in place? Oh my.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-10 04:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh I see I see! Also oh no! Hopefully there's a way to set better pressure through the tablet's settings on your comp? Wacom should really make that more obvious for their consumers a g h

Yeah yeah, it was either the Linework layers or using the binary marker to make things pixelated. Either way was very tedious and straining for my fingers aaaaaaa I wish you can fix the pressure, have you looked into it online?

Not my hands themselves, my fingers o o f. They'd either lock in place or make me drop my pen, then I'd give it time to pass and get back to work (with leeway, gotta be careful). It's never too long, 5 seconds max, but it's still not fun. I'm globbing aaaaa sorry!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-10 05:51:23 +0000 UTC]

Wacom is so tricky sometimes (with the nibs LOL) and their help isn't always the best (at least when it comes to my problems)
I momentarily fixed it by updating my tablet driver but recently it started up again...oh well, at least it isn't my lineart using tools that have no pressure (that would be very, very bad. Probably just jinxed myself.)Β

Oh fingers! That's still horrible though! I hope you're alright when that happens because even for a few seconds it sounds awful!Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-10 11:16:29 +0000 UTC]

I see, but maybe some people online have similar issues and you can find a solution on forums?

Hmm, yeah usually updates would fix things up. I'm unsure why it's keeps up like that, but I believe there's a fix just hiding! (Knock on wood, fam)

Indeed, stretches and frequent breaks can do the body good, but can force ya outta your mojo and mess up the whole thing. I still try to when I can tho

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Icefire1200 In reply to BellamyRocks [2018-09-12 06:03:25 +0000 UTC]

The most common solution was updating the tablet ahahah rip me

I'll just hope for the best and pray it doesn't get any worse, at least I can work with what I have!
I've noticed my neck cramps more, it always pops a bit when I roll it that's not good

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellamyRocks In reply to Icefire1200 [2018-09-12 08:50:04 +0000 UTC]

Awww I'm sorry, hun ; A ;

Yeah, hopefully it'll fix itself or another update will patch the problem
Oh no! Not good at all, is it how you're leaning towards the screen or something else?
