Me too, MH3 was great! MH3U is amazing too, but I feel like the online for MH3 was better in a lot of ways. Well, there's MH4U to look forward to next year! Which weapon was your favorite to use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Belynx16 In reply to ScythicKitty [2014-04-09 22:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I feel the same! I actually bought MH3U last year, but when I found out that the online play was restricted to your own country, I took it back xD! 'Cause almost no one in Australia plays it. ;-;
But yeah, MH4U will be out soon. Now I just gotta buy a 3DS, something to make me even more broke haha
My favourite by far was sns, or sword and shield, even though everyone seemed to hate on it. It had a fast attack speed, you could move quickly, block and still get the job done haha How about yourself? Also, which was your favourite monster?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScythicKitty In reply to Belynx16 [2014-04-12 09:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that's too bad! Because a few weeks after MH3U came out, they combined all the non-Japanese servers so you could play with people all around the world! XD If you do get a 3DS and they combine the servers for that one, we should hunt together some time! Whee monies flying out of the wallet!

Nice! A lot of people underestimate the sns, and I think that's a shame. While it's not my main weapon, I do enjoy using it and in the right hands, it destroys everything pretty quickly! (Not to mention the handy dandy shield prevents carting!) I have a friend who mains the sns and has crazy fast times in the arena. I wish more people would use it as their main weapon. In MHF, my main was dual swords, then in MH3, it was the bowgun. In MHP3 and MH3U, it's the swax and bow. Do you have a least favorite weapon?

As for favorite monster, well, to look at it is probably glacial agnaktor, but to fight, it would be nargacuga! What about you, which is your favorite to fight and for looks?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Belynx16 In reply to ScythicKitty [2014-04-12 13:41:01 +0000 UTC]

Omg, seriously? Haha that would be just my luck, of course that would happen xD! But yey, that sounds awesome, we must hunt together! Do you know if they've officially stated a release date? Or is it just a 'sometime-around-this-time' type of deal?
Yes, it is a shame, all of my hunter friends would use either the long sword or great sword, and then pay me out for my weak attacks. ;-; But the sns seriously makes up for it in speed and agility, I always beat them when we had those 'hunter vs hunter' moments at the end of a great fight. And that's pretty cool, arena is a good thing to master, you can get some seriously good rewards from it. o.o
Oh wow, what are the dual swords like? I've heard of them, but never seen them in action. Only ever played MH3 unfortunately, so I only really know the weapons and monsters from that game. ;-; And gosh, you mained the bowgun? That's amazing! Hardly anyone does, but it's a pretty badass weapon haha. What is the swax, by the way?
Least favourite weapon...would probably be the hammer. Only 'cause I suck at using it. I tried once, ended up just killing jaggis in the background while my mates took down the Barroth xD! How about yourself?
I just google'd the Glacial Agnaktor, wow. Wish they had that beauty in MH3 haha. xD My friend has told me about Nargacuga before, she said it was like a feline bat? What's it like going up against it? And favourite to fight would have to be Qurupeco by far. xD It's got such character and it clowns around so much! Plus I'm a bird lover, so perhaps that plays a role in my liking of it haha. As for looks, however, I would honestly say Ceadeus. It's such a large, calm, graceful creature. I love it. Either that, or the Barioth, just 'cause it looks badass. c=

For MH4U, they only said it'd be out sometime in early 2015, so no solid release date yet. Hopefully we'll get more information about it soon!

Indeed, the long and great swords were really popular back in MH3. Most people I knew also preferred one of the two (more ls). Upswinging and tripping galore! Sns is great- applies status quickly, minimal teammate disruptions (though the shield bash to their face is pretty funny), so versatile, and it definitely helps that a lot of the designs are quite pleasing to the eye! Unlike hammer, which tends to look either like a booger on a stick or an impaled head. I guess as an impact weapon, it's hard to make it look more sleek and elegant, but yikes, a lot of them are pretty ugly. That said, I do like having hammer users on the team. Free KO's and instant meatshield! XD Yeah, I mained the bowgun. Pyew pyew pyew! I've had people tell me to change my weapon because it's too weak (tis not!), or I've gotten kicked out of my own room because I wasn't clust gunning and people come in thinking I'm a clust gunner. TT.TT We can lament in the corner together for having hated, underused weapons!

Swax is switch axe! I think people started abbreviating it as swax instead of sa because sa was censored for some reason. I'm not sure if that was specific to our region though. ^^ Dual swords are a lovely button spammy weapon. It's great for newcomers to the series who aren't used to how "slow" the game moves and don't want to concentrate on both attacking and defending. It's a great weapon in general though with high dps and is probably the most popular weapon in MH3U.

My least favorite weapon to use...probably the great sword. It looks cool and all and I see people knocking giant dinosaurs out of the sky with it, but I can't use it for the life of me. I can totally defeat the dreaded air though! Hiya! Take that! Ah yeah, critical hit on the air! XD In terms of looks though, definitely the hammer. Did you hear about Capcom's contest? They're having a contest where you design a weapon (not weapon class), and one person from each region will win and have their weapon featured in the game.

I call Nargacuga the "owl," since I think its face looks like an owl. But a feline bat is a pretty good comparison! Fighting against it is similar to barioth, minus the stinky ice breath and less flying and more pouncing, plus a tail that slaps around and shoots purple sticks out. I really like how it doesn't have those"out of the way" moves, like gigginox just sits on top of the ceiling or diablos burrows underground or alatreon flys around and you can just barely hit the tail unless you're a gunner. I feel like it disrupts the flow of the battle when you're just waiting for them to be hittable again, though I guess it adds some variety. Nargacuga doesn't really have cheap moves either or a terrible hitbox, and it's not too easy and not too hard to solo, just right!

Haha the chicken is a fun one to fight! I also really liked watching the ecology video they had of it! Ceadeus is pretty nice to look at. I like the colors on it and the weapons it turns into! XD Glow in the dark yeah!

Alrighty, I'm glad to hear that. If it comes out early enough, I'll still be on holidays. Endless hours of MH, here I come! By the way, any idea whether they're thinking of bringing MH4U onto a console gaming system? The DS is nice, but it's a little small. I'll miss having monsters on the big screen. ;-;

Haha oh my god, the amount of times my teammates and I were tripped up by a silly ls user. xD! But yes, I completely agree with you about the sns. Shield bashing especially, right when they weren't expecting it. Was hilarious. ('= And the hammers were rather unattractive, weren't they! The only one that was somewhat nice to look at was the Lotus flower-shaped hammer, though at first, I thought it was an Easter Egg until I found out it was actually just a hammer. xD I did appreciate that hammer users were needed in some instances though, like having them knock off Uragaan's chin. That was handy. But wow, you were kicked out of your own room just because you don't clust gun? We must unite in our supposed weakness and stand strong against those who use mainstream weapons!

Oh! Haha! I see now, I feel silly. Yes, I was used to people calling it sa. It was a little awkward for me, though, having it abbreviated to that. Because every time people asked me what part of Australia I come from, I'd have to say "SA". You can imagine how many people got confused over that. I can't remember sa being censored however. Perhaps it was just for your region? I do remember the word "after" being censored though. That was weird! xD
I see, that's pretty awesome. Yay for high dps! Glad it'll be in MH4U, I'm curious to see how they compare to sns.

The great sword is pretty hard to use. xD The only time I ever used it was against Jhen Mohran's back, because it didn't matter if you were slow as it couldn't move away, just like the air. Though in hindsight, I think I mainly used ls with him, because there was a trick where if you positioned yourself just right and attacked at the weak spots on his back, you would slowly migrate to a point and then you'd get 'stuck', all the while still able to reach his weak spot. xD Good strategy it was, because normally if you attacked a spot on his back, you'd have to keep repositioning as you'd migrate away from it with each attack. Gosh, I miss discovering little tricks like that in the game. I wish online play was still up and running! ;-;
No, I didn't hear about that, wow! That's really neat. You'd feel so epic, using your own weapon. xD Have you entered the contest?

Owl? That sound a lot more attractive, I love owls haha. But it's good that it didn't have any true "out of the way" moves, that was always annoying! Especially with the time limit. I think my friends and I failed at Alatreon a few times simply because he spent so much time in the air. We couldn't deal enough damage fast enough, and we would run out of time. ;-; I always felt so silly, too, as an sns user, when Ian and Los would fly around. Everyone else could easily reach them, and there I was, chasing after their ever-moving tails! >.< I mean, if the monsters are in the air/on the walls and obviously preparing to either attack or leave, then it isn't too bad. But when they simply stay there, flapping away or clinging on, and obviously aren't doing anything...that's a little frustrating.

Ahaha, chicken. xD Yes, Peco's ecology video was one of my favourites. Such a beautiful and funny creature! And heck yeah, Ceadeus' weapons are very ancient-looking. Still looking to get an Abyssal Striker one day!

I'm also hoping that it comes out early enough, at least for my spring break! One week of pure dinosaur roasting joy! I don't believe they're bring MH4U out to any counsel, but they could change their minds later. Since this does have online implemented into it, there doesn't seem to be a need to put it out elsewhere. I know a lot of people would love to see it on the big screen though. Plus the chat system is just so limited on the 3DS! There's always the 3DS XL, but for me, that's too big for my hands and I really don't feel comfortable holding it. The regular size for me (and tiny screen...uuhuu )!

Oh yes! The flower one was pretty much the only "nice" looking hammer, though I did like the alatreon hammer (which is still just an impaled head, but it was a glow-in-the-dark impaled head! ). A shame the alluring lotus hammer ended up being weak (the fully upgraded one in MH3U is pretty decent though) so very few people used it, despite its handsome looks. Hammers are dandy indeed! Shield bash is awesome haha! It sends them flying so far, it was great to use when everyone was crammed around the dinosaur head when it was in a pitfall trap. That was hilarious, sending 3 people out. XD Yeah, I was kicked out of my own room twice for not having a clust gun. Well, I had it, and all the armor parts, but I wasn't going to use it! It's...it's disgustingly hideous! If I'm going to sit and game all hour(s), I want to be looking terrific when I can! I'm all for people doing speedruns and such, but it's just sad to get kicked out of your own room. >.> Yes indeedies, we must make a stand for all gunners and sns users!

I also mainly used the gs on jhen if I was serious using it, since definitely you just stand and spam level 3 charges without a worry! XD No sand whale nor air stood a chance against my mighty blade of justice! I do remember using the ls and it was nice to just keep sliding towards the weakspot haha. Doing little tricks like that was fun! Like the stuck alatreon for cheap kills, or that one ledge on deserted island that you could safely shoot the giant pickle from (and potentially walk through the entire level without loading screens). I also wish they had the game still up and running! So many good memories there, and great people too! I have a couple friends who never even got to alatreon. I guess they had to make way for MH3U though. I do have a design that's half done for the contest, and now before I finalize it, I'm just getting some feedback on it before sending it in. It looks very much more like a joke weapon though (shoujo magic candy hammer!), so it's unlikely it'll be chosen. Still, it was fun to make, and at least all my complaints are justified since I at least tried to help them prettify their hammers!

Alatreon flies even more in MH3U! Thankfully they added a binder in, but it is so annoying! I agree, it's not fun when the dinosaur is just sitting somewhere out of reach, not doing anything. There's so many times I had a drooling agnaktor or uragaan just sitting in the lava, and we couldn't do anything about it. I'm fine with them being out of range if say, it was barioth about to do a wall jump or gigginox doing that CPR move, but really, most of the time they're out of range just to extend the fight it seems. It can be quite frustrating!

I know! I love how they took a more silly approach to the chicken's ecology video, while everyone else's was on the serious side. It made it seem like chicken just had a lot of personality and was easier to "relate" to, whereas all the other ones just acted like, well, monsters. It was just a fancy version of what we already see during battle, like gobul eating or barroth smashing things. I did like the rathian one a lot they did in the previous games though, since it showed her motherly side. The chicken and wife ones are probably my favorite ecologies in the whole series.  Abyssal Striker is a nice weapon! (I think I like anything that glows in the dark haha) Too bad that battle is pretty drawn out though! >.<

Belynx16 In reply to ScythicKitty [2014-04-19 01:37:57 +0000 UTC]

Ahh yeah, that's a good point. Perhaps they won't transfer it over then. It's just a bummer, it seems like the monsters would be so much more intimidating and awesome if they were on a larger screen haha. Well, perhaps the next Monster Hunter game shall be on the big screen! Already looking to the future, haha! And I know what you mean, I checked out my mate's 3DS XL, and my gosh it was weird. Such a chunky thing it is. But if we do both buy MH4U, we'll definitely hunt together!

I never actually got to see the Alatreon hammer in action, so I had no idea that it glows! That's really neat haha. But yes, not many used the lotus hammer. One of my friends often did just to look fab. Aside from him, though, I rarely ever saw it. And I loved trolling people in that trapped phase too, unless a ls user beat me to it! xD Though one thing I do remember doing, if my mates and I were all looting the monster we'd just killed and there were annoying little jaggis dancing around, cancelling everyones' looting actions, then I would always go and quickly finish them off so everyone could loot properly because I had the fastest weapon haha. xD Yay for playing support! That's one thing that did bother me a little with MH3 though: you had just enough time to loot the maximum amount of carvings and may get one or two hits in on your mates before the quest finished itself, so if you were halfway across the map when your mates killed the monster, you might've only gotten half the loot you could have! >.< I would have preferred it if they had a system where everyone in the team had a "Finished" button or something, and the quest would only officially end when everyone was ready. That would've been awesome! xD But oh well haha. And yes, you have to look good while playing! It's funny you say that, because the only armour I ever wore was Qurupeco armour, because I loved the look of it haha. xD I never even upgraded to Qurupeco+ armour, because I became so fond of my first-grade armour!

Wow! What legde was that? I don't think any of my friends knew about that or, if they did, they never told me! xD Gosh, still so much to discover about the game, but now it won't be with friends. ;-; That's what I figured too, though, that they probably just wanted to take down the servers and have people focusing more on MH3U. And hey, that's an awesome hammer! xD You never know, it might be the very fact of it being a joke weapon that makes them choose it! I think people would really enjoy a weapon like that, particularly because the hammers are supposed to have a reputation of being big and badass (apart from the beautiful lotus haha). By the way, did you ever play against baby Uragaan?

Gosh yes, the volcanic monsters in the lava? That seems to happen to me all the time in single player! I think there's a quest where you have to battle one Uragaan and one Agnaktor...or something like that. I've never been able to complete it, because it seems like the monsters decide to go and sit in the lava just as they become really weak, so it takes longer to kill them and I run out of time. ;-;

I think that's probably what made it so appealing, because it showed a piece of a monster's personality rather than showing what we already know they do - fight! I couldn't have explained it better myself haha. What was Ian's ecology in the other games? I actually can't really remember anything about Ian's ecology in MH3 even, god my memory is bad! x.x And yes, it seems like so much work, spending all that time fighting Ceadeus just to gain one or two pieces of material for the weapon per run! >.<

ScythicKitty In reply to Belynx16 [2014-04-24 03:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Yep yep! Too bad there isn't like a "transfer to TV" function on the 3DS, where we still use it like a controller and have the bottom screen functional if need be, but then we can enjoy everything on a nice big screen! It certainly is easier on the eyes!

I think if the "finished" button was implemented, that would welcome a lot of trolls to just purposely extend the quest. It also takes away the purpose of the carving pro skill. In MH3U, one of the final monsters has 9 carves (in three different areas, which makes it bothersome to get to!), and I usually only get 7, 8 if I'm lucky. The only way to get the 9th precious carve is if you have that skill equipped. But I know what you mean by how it's poopy to not get all the carves. I've had instances where I am certain I do most of the damage, yet at the last minute the monster knocks me over a ledge or something, someone else does the last blow, and I am nowhere near it to carve my goods! Gah! >.< Ideally, if all the players were considerate of each other or didn't randomly go afk, that carve system you mentioned would work great. I wouldn't mind doing away with the carving pro skill haha.

It seems quite a few people actually just kept their old armors rather than updating to the + ones, since their skills were better. I think rathalos and guild were common to keep as regular instead of +. But that is awesome that you mostly wore the qurupeco armor! I only know one other person who did that, and it does look pretty cool. It's one of the few armors that didn't give you a huge butt or shoulders. So many armors are unflattering! I also wore the qurupeco one for awhile, but then found favor with dat black leather set nyahahaha. XD

There was a ledge on the left part of the stage which separated the lava from the rock. Alatreon just keeps charging straight and apparently can't fly out either (though occasionally he/she does escape). Not to mention he can't die on the lava, so when you think he should be dead, then you let him out so he can rest in peace. XD It was removed in MH3U though. No more easy kills! And yes, I have played against the baby uragaan! It hits deceptively hard for such a little guy! Plus with 4 people crammed around it, we just kept knocking each other around. A lot of ammo really doesn't work well on it, like crag...boom! There goes your teammates! Which was your favorite event quest?

Indeed, that can get so frustrating! When you've already spent nearly an hour on the fight, and you're ready to land the finishing blow or capture the beast, they just go camp somewhere out of range and ding! Bye bye quest! Thankfully as a gunner, this wasn't a problem too often, but definitely there's a limit to how far the gun shoots, not to mention most of the time you're not supposed to be more than 3 rolls away from the dinosaur. Most people stand waaaaay too far to be an effective gunner. >.<

Haha no no, your memory is just fine! XD There wasn't a rathian ecology in Tri, but it was present in another game. If you're interested, this is what it is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR2oQ9…  So cute! And yeah, it takes so long to fight ceadeus, when you only want one piece! I remember farming for the horns, which weren't box rewards either and you could only hope that you carved it! And so many were required when you were trying to collect all the armors and weapons! >.<

Belynx16 In reply to ScythicKitty [2014-04-27 01:41:43 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's a brilliant idea haha. xD I guess they sort of tried to do that with the whole Wii U, where you have a small screen that you look at in your hands...but having games that are actually transferable between the 3DS and a console would be fantastic.

That's a good point. I know I would troll my friends, mwahaha. But that's true, I didn't think of the carving pro skill. Never actually got to test that out, but I remember thinking it was awesome - that and the skill that prevented knockbacks, so you could complete those highly-rewarding egg-carrying quests pretty easily haha. xD And wow, 9 different carves? o.O That's insane! I remember that a few of my mates and I had our own kind of system where if it was obvious that the monster was nearly dead, and there were some of us that weren't in the same map area, we weren't allowed to kill it until everyone was present so everyone could get the carvings haha. xD But that was only because we really trusted each other and wanted to help each other out, I don't think strangers would think of doing that for you unfortunately. Which sucks, especially when as you said, you get knocked away by accident and then can't get the carves, even if you were the main player. >.< Perhaps to prevent afk'ers and trollers in the made-up carve system, perhaps there could be a time limit as to how long everyone stays in the quest area...but if everyone was ready to leave earlier, say, then they could all press the "Finished" button. That way, even if there is a troller there, everyone would still be able to leave say after 3 minutes or so, and not the 20-odd seconds they give you in MH3. xD

I know what you mean, I only ever met one other person who used Peco (although hers was Peco+) armour too, and even then she used bits and pieces of armour from other sets to go with it haha. xD I just remember loving the whole tribal-feel to it. Plus I love birds. But yes, many of the armours, while looking somewhat cool in design, did not flatter the human figure whatsoever haha. xD Oh man, that black leather set, from which materials was that made? I remember it, but I can't remember the details about it.

I see! Gosh, I wish my friends and I had known about that, we were constantly putting off doing the Ala quest purely because it took so long and it wasn't a guaranteed win. x.x Ahaha baby Uragaan was hilarious the first time my mates and I vs'ed him. We were all infatuated with the little fella, but I knew that Capcom wouldn't put in such a tiny monster without having it pack some punch...one of my friends didn't realise that though. He ran straight up to it and was all "Omg, you're so cute, c'mere and gimme a hug!". Next thing he knew, his character was on the ground, knocked over, with a very good chunk of his health missing xD! But yes, all the knocking over was a pain, especially when one of my friends had the brilliant idea of bringing a ls along because it would "hit more of his body at once"...as well as all of us. xD But oh well. My favourite event quest? I don't remember them all actually, but I remember loving the Jhen Mohran quest, because each of us would all assign ourselves to different roles. I would almost always be the one to use the Ballista Binder while the others would focus on the different parts of his body. We would take turns trying to perfectly time that one critical gong-moment where Jhen would surge up at the front of the boat and, if timed right, the gong would stop it. I remember every successful gong brought about cheers and triumph, and every one missed would be a "That's okay, better luck next time!" moment. xD I miss the camaraderie of those times! How about yourself? Which one did you like the most?

That's definitely one handy thing about being a gunner - you don't have to be immediately in front of the monster to attack it haha. xD But yes, even guns have their range limits. I would have become a gunner - I started out as one - but I always had the worst luck of everyone, because the monsters would always seem to focus on attacking me! x.x So I hardly ever got many shots in haha. That's why I switched early on. xD But the range of ammo and various ammo effects were brilliant, there's no doubt that having a gunner on your team is a fantastic asset.

Oh! No wonder I couldn't remember it then, I had it in my mind that every monster in MH3 had an ecology video haha. xD But wow, I just watched it, and that's so adorable! The baby dragons are so sweet. It's bizarre to see younger versions of bigger monsters though, I have to admit. xD And gosh yes, that was a pain. Not to mention, fighting underwater as a sns user is so difficult because it takes a lot of manoeuvring to be able to land your attacks. When I first started playing, it took me at least a month to finally get used to how your character is controlled underwater! x.x

Sorry for the really late reply! Almost a month overdue, but I guess better late than never!

You've got some great ideas there! I think another thing that would be nice is to have a "free hunt" mode online, or at least enable it offline locally with friends. No HR granted, infinite lives, no bonus money or rewards, but that way everyone is guaranteed a carve and it's great for practice runs for those who aren't as familiar with the monster's moves.

It definitely is nice not being directly in front of a monster as a gunner or a bow user! The downside though is that the perfect range for a lot of ammo is also in perfect range for a lot of attacks, whether it is diablos' tail spin or deviljho's stinky breath. I found that I actually get hit less using dual blades, despite their short range and being right under the monster! XD And that mini urugaan was quite cute! Brilliant idea of using an ls on him eh? Good times, good times! The jhen quest was pretty fun in the right groups. Later weapons outdamaged the cannons and such, but it was nice to have people assigned to certain roles. It was a great change from the usual quests. Hm, my personal favorite event quest? I suppose it would be World Eater! I did so terribly on it the first time around, but after that, it was lots of fun! Nothing like tackling a giant pickle with little toothpick legs!

Haha yeah! That rathian ecology was adorable! Seeing the little babies makes the parents more life-like. They're not just bosses for us to carve into fancy socks any more after seeing that! They have their own life and mating seasons and whatnot. I hope that when technology gets better and the MH series continues to evolve, they'll really be able to make these monsters more life-like. They seem to be going in the right direction in MH4/U with how they interact with the environment more, but it would be fun to have them a little less predictable and have smarter AI, especially on those small monsters! For the most part, they act like they don't even see the big monsters two feet from them! It would also be cool to see combo moves, like if a rathian and rathalos were together, they'd really work together. Or maybe make things more realistic, like when a second monster comes, they actually fight each other instead of both teaming up on the hunter for seemingly no reason, especially if they are different species.

I was teaching a friend how to fight underwater and we were just bashing those slow epioths, but after an hour, she managed to only poke two to death! It was really hard for her to get used to (camera, moving, attacking, and shielding at the same time underwater) since she's not a gamer in the first place. I remember when I first tried swimming in the demo, it was really weird! It becomes much easier later, but that first month of playing the MH3 demo, swimming was quite terrible. I think the two weapons that seem to get affected the most underwater are ls and sns (ls more in MH3U, not so much in MH3). I felt like the end combo of the sns underwater somehow sent the hunter slightly upwards, which is a big deal when you're trying to hit the weakspot! Kudos to you for keeping with the sns underwater!
