First off I want to say this is just the truth. Nothing is going to be sugar coated here and now. I am not trying to scare you away or to convince you to go because this is your choice and to be honest. This school is the best choice I PERSONALLY have ever made. I love the school and i love the teachers and students (there is one person i actually dislike and no teachers that i dislike) just this is generally what happens I have noticed. Also, feel free to ask me anything at any given point, and in the future you want to meet irl at the school that would be totally fine too! I am 10p% down with giving you advice, homework help, a person to rant to, a second set of eyes to look over work and critique, or just someone to talk to who has a year on you for experience! I promise you I am here to help so come around or bring friends who need help or advice. Β
The number one thing I want you and anyone else to know is that at Digipen it is hard. It is a lot of work. But if you ae passionate and this IS what you want to do you are going to have so much fun every fucking day of it. It will get stressful but keep in mind this is your passion and you will be fine. Also, if you do happen to relize you are not as passionate as you thought (this has happened) it is OKAY to put off coming back until you are 100% sure this is or isnt what you want to do. It is fine if you realize you dont want to do this and leave. No one will judge you if you leave on a good note.Β
I would suggest to join the cohort facebook group if you can because a lot of connections are made there, but dont expect to like people irl you like there. I have had on some occasions thought I would Β would like someone but they wound up being an utter cunt and vise versa, where i thiught i would hate someone but I love them now. So just keep an open mind that people are far more different irl than onine. So dont make 100% decisions on who you want to be friends with based off of that but dont keep to yourself either. I was active hapf the time and made friends with a lot of my cohort via that. And because if that I already have many game teams inviting me into their and asking for commission work. So ise your resources! Another thing I would suggest, dont be an ass hole. If you are rude, ignorant, cocky or what ever people would not want to work with you no matter how good you are. No one wants to work with you= no partners for ll the group project= failure.Β
I would also say this now. If you can not take critiques get over it. Because teachers here are savage as fuck. They do not hold back if something is bad they will tell you with no sugar coating. I am exsagurating a bit, but there has been many times (my friends tell me this. It never happened to me personally) that teachers have said things like "it looks like a fucking doodle," or just plain telling people to expecr to fail if they dont start trying harder. Now I do get that sounds HELLA mean. But, every single teacher wants you to get better and succeed. That is why they do it.Β
Participate in clubs and school events. There is a lot of free food you can get out of going to those. It is really pricy to live on your own (if you havw not yet) so do e sure you dont waste your money on things you dont need. Budgeting is Β important.Β
And probably most importantly, DO NOT COMPAIR YOURSELF TO OTHER ARTS IN YOUR COHORT OR NOT. Remember you are going to this school for you not anyone else. Keep track of your progress and how you are doing. While do care for your friends, just remember that you can not help it if they fail. Their passing is in their hands. Where it does suck when good friends have to leave, you are spending a lot of Β money on this school. So dont compair yourself to others. You WILL get better. You are in full controle of that, just note it takes time. But it will happen. You Β have to work your ass off but t will happen
Side note** show up to classes prepaired and do your work. Dont just not show up because you dont want to or not do work because you dont want to. You will end up failing and low key people will talk shit about you if that happens. I know I ask people if they know who dropped out every major drop out point. And we talk about why we think it happens.Β

Thank you for being totally honest with me. Β I went into applying for the school knowing I was gonna be busting my butt the whole time, and it's good to know that even if it's gonna be hard it's gonna be for good reasons. Β I'm fully expecting to have my work picked apart by the teachers, it's why I want to be there. Β Can't get better if you're not challenged right?
I'm so excited to be going to this school, and it's nice to think I could meet someone there who's already been a student for a bit. Thanks for your honest advice, I'd definitely like to keep talking and I'd think it'd be great to meet up IRL once I get there!

For sure! I think you are coming in with a great attitude, so just keep thinking that way and you should do great! just know that there will be some minor set backs, but no matter what it is just make sure you keep on top of every thing and you should do fine! I am glad you took my advice (although always take advice with a grain of salt, this is just my own experiences and observations) and I hope it helps!
