That's an excuse.
While there are a group of people who will always hate certain concepts, even if they are executed with utter perfection, they are a much smaller minority than people give them credit for; more to the point, they rarely take the time to point out flaws in someone's writing style, if they comment at all. Plus, I've had more than one complaint of a similar nature across multiple forms of writing.
At this point, it's pretty clear that it's not them with the problem, it's me.
