# About me

While "life" demands that we spend our careers at things we call "jobs" - my real passions lie in more creative areas. I am a dabbler in many forms of art, though seek in time (and for time) to pursue them on a more serious level.

The list of my dabbling and hopeful areas to become more involved in include the following. In the list, I strive for realism, for the perfection of the texture of a leather glove caught in a drawing, a believable twist and turn of fabric on my sculptures, the true color of something represented in paint...

* Miniatures: In addition to painting those wonderful fantasy & sci-fi miniatures produced by such companies as Reaper and Games Workshop, I sculpt some of my own. I have sculpted some out of polymer clay and some from the more commonly used epoxy. I am hoping to learn how to mold my sculptures and make my own casts, too.

* Sculptures: Working on miniatures is fun, but the limited detail sometimes frustrates me, so I am branching into larger sculptures as well. Currently, I'm using various polymer clays for this process, but in time, I hope to explore some of the other potentials as well. I would also like to learn to mold and cast these sculptures as well.

* Drawing: I draw in many forms, including digital and traditional mediums. I find that I am best at black and white (even when working with full color references), and really have come to enjoy working with my Wacom Bamboo Tablet and Sketchbook Pro more than I enjoy graphite and paper, which of course, I still use on a semi-daily basis. I rarely consider my drawing's truly completed. The drawing includes other "mediums" or vehicles, from the one-off sketch/portrait, to compilation pieces, and even dabbling with comic-book style story-telling.

* Painting: I have on occasion, picked up oil and acrylic paints and applied them to canvas. Most frequently, though, my paints are applied to miniatures.

Two additional areas of creativity which consumes my time and are less likely to be posted here are writing (as I have a handful of stories my wife is nagging at me to finish), and music, I play violin, viola and the guitar. I learned to play the strings as a child (yay, music programs!) and continued to take lessons off and on into my adulthood. As for the guitar, I am mostly self-taught; teaching myself to play songs by ear and by watching other people play them.

I am a man who is dedicated to what I take into my life; my writing, my creativity, my family. But I am also a man who cycles through areas of dedication. I will sometimes go for months without sculpting or drawing, if I am drawn to writing; I may go through periods where I dip into the artist's melancholy and turn to less creative hobbies... Depending on how successful I deem my most recent project.

I hope you'll come along with me as I continue to dabble in my arts, perfect my skills and trudge on to engage in my crafts in a more professional level...
