# About me

Hi, nice to meet you! ☺

First of all I need to thank all you guys, who surprise me with a Fav! i'm really glad with every "star" and I´m sending my "thanx2you" out in space, believing, it reaches the right

Ever since I remember, I saw everything (people, things, situations etc) in combination with colours. So a typical sentence you can hear from me could be "dmmd... this situation is too much violett, I can't stand it any longer..."

meanwhile I know that THIS is called "Synesthesia" and NOT "badly gone crazy"!

But because of this and because of the combination with ADHD, I started drawing how I realize people, situations and my feelings when I was about 4 years old ... and never stopped doing that 😀

I haven't discovered my own style of Art yet, but I guess, I never will ... because life changes with every second ... such as ART does ...

ART (to me) is not only a beautiful picture/painting/drawing ... it also has to start something vibrating in my inner self ... something that makes me FEEL the colours by looking at it ...

I studied ART-therapy and I love to work with "my" Kids at the Kids ARTclub 💟
I really LOVE the children's painting and I am persuaded that ALL Kids are artists by nature!

I'd like to thank All, who favorited the Kids drawings! they get pretty motivated with every new "Star"

Hi Alec,

You mentioned that you have not yet discovered your art style.  You have your own art style, which is fluid, developing and changing along with your life.

The human brain loves to categorize everything, for efficiency and speed. Alas, the downside of this is that people naturally try to pin labels on everybody and everything, and these labels are generally applied with very little actual data or knowledge about the person, issue or thing.  This is a case where the brain trades speed for accuracy.

“Art Styles” are an example of pigeonholing (assigning overly restrictive categories to things, people, emotions…).  People also tend to do this with everyone they see or hear. Yet these labels typically do great disservice.  You could identify me as an older Gay man.  This does not actually say much about me at all, and is likely to lead people to make many incorrect assumptions about me. The labels really don’t say much of anything about who I am as a human being. I could use a single word, compassionate, to better describe me than older Gay male.

I think Synesthesia is fascinating.  I am Autistic, and my brain thinks differently compared to most.  Most people are sequential thinkers, where A leads to B, which leads to C, which leads to D…  Intuitive thinking has you struggling with A and B, like puzzle pieces floating around.  But if you stick with it, suddenly, like a lightbulb turning on, you leap to D, then to H…

Alas, it makes you look stupid to teachers and IQ tests.  I was ranked as “Mentally Retarded” twice, in 1st grade and 9th grade.  My grades were in the top 10% of the school, but the guidance Counselor showed my parents and I where I was on the bottom of the bell-curve of intelligence. I complained that my grades were top of the school and he said, “Tests don’t lie, you must have easy teachers.”

I went on to college and got a 4-year engineering degree in 3 years, graduating number 1, then was able to retire for life by age 34, from saving and investing my professional earnings.   I am not bragging, I simply want to show you that you should NEVER believe negative things people tell you about yourself, no matter how many degrees they have.

You are a genius in your own ways. Because of your Synesthesia and the other ways your brain sees and thinks, you can create art no one else can.  In fact, the more you try to fit yourself into existing art styles, the more it may mess with your own style.

Your success in life in not a measure of money earned or accolades earned, it is a measure of contentment, enjoyment and happiness you have gained from life.  but this is not what society drills into us.  so if you do not earn lots of many and awards, etc, then you tend to feel a failure.

Back to, human vision is fascinating.  People think of vision in terms of their eyes, but the eyes only gather raw data.  The brain then throws the vast majority of each scan out, via filtering.  The brain then interprets what it is seeing, based mostly on experience and some by genetics.  The brain can see things in glorious detail, that do not exist in reality, like a pink elephant running through your living room.  Or the brain may not see things right in front of you.  Therefore, most of human vision is brain-based.  I gather that Synesthesia, in your case, is an overlay of color and emotional interpretation. Some people see in music.

I realize there may have been hardships growing up with Synesthesia, like me growing up with Autism, but in the end each has its rewards, yes?

Experience can change our perceptions of color and shape.  A child is asked to draw a dog and the parent says, “No that is a giraffe.”  A child paints a forest scene from picnic trip to the woods. An adult will say, no, your colors are all wrong, the sky is blue, the grass is green, etc.  Who has the more true vision, the young child, or the adult?

Have you heard of the book, “Drawing from the Right side of your Brain?”  www.amazon.com/Drawing-Right-S…  You can get older editions for less than a dollar. www.amazon.com/Drawing-Right-B…

If you are right-handed, then your right hemisphere is your creative side and the left is the intellectual side. The author has you take a bust of someone and hang it upside down, then draw it.  When it is right side up, your brain immediately says this is a human head, and this biases everything drawn and painted after that.  Hang in upside down, your brain no longer sees it as a human head, and you end up drawing it without pre-programmed bias.

I was doing art as a boy, but I was so self-critical and a perfectionist that it sucked the joy out of art.  In college, I went into metal art, using many types of metals and welding, brazing and soldering techniques, for almost 18 years. This was fun.  After I retired, I got back into traditional art.  Then Photoshop 1 came out as part of the birth of the digital art age, so I dove in head first and never looked back.  The moral of the story is that an artist can be their own worst critic, and this can have a negative impact on the art and the artist.

A question to ask yourself is if you are enjoying creating things.  This is all that matters in my mind.  Creativity can be in your mind alone, put into words, strokes, touch, carved from stone, shaped metal or clay, painted, kisses, all things possible.

Sorry for rambling on.

Matthew
