Hello! Just had a look through your portfolio; it's always a privilege to meet a fellow fighting game player, but even more so when they're female! There are so few of you out there, that when I do run across one, it's certainly something to be celebrated. And from the UK, too! Fabulous!
Respect and kudos, from one UK-resident fighting games fan to another!

Kinda thank you. I'm not very good at fighting games because I panic too easily and mess up the inputs but I still do the good ol' button mashing technique. Mortal Kombat is easiest to play because I cannot for the life of me do the analogue movements in Street Fighter. I would like to main Balrog because he needs more love and appreciation, he's such a cool character!
I really love the Udon comics, I'm trying to get as many of them as I can because the stories are fun and gives characters a bit more development and the art style is awesome. I'm trying to get into Tekken and Killer Instinct because I have a friend and ex acquaintance that liked the series respectively. But instead of jumping in head first, I want to ease in like I did with Mortal Kombat otherwise I would look like a fake fan.
But do people play fighting games for story? I do and I really like the new direction in MK9 to have a story mode. I love the anime cutscenes in Street Fighter 4, especially back when it was still new.

a) Firstly, don't worry about how good you are at fighting games; the important thing is that you enjoy them and have fun. If you concentrate too hard on trying to be a skilled player, sometimes the overall objective of appreciating a great game is lost. Besides, that will come with time and experience; it's not something you need to consciously work at.
b)And, you're not alone; I remember that I had a super-hard time when I was trying to learn how to perform the Z-motion for a Dragon Punch in Street Fighter, all those years ago. It comes with practice; eventually the whole thing will just 'click', and you'll be able to bust out the moves on command. I think, if you haven't already got one, an arcade stick might be of use to you; it's a lot easier to perform the motions when each directional input is seperate. With a pad, it can get a little bit 'fudged'; trying to input all those different directional commands is a little bit less precise when you're pretty much pressing two directions as once (as is the case with some pads).
c) UDON is an outstanding art studio. As well as comics, they've published some great Capcom-related books that were originally Japanese-only; if you like Street Fighter, I would heartily recommend that you pick up a copy of Eternal Challenge.
d) Please don't worry about looking like a fake fan! When it comes down to it, what matters is that you enjoy the games; what other people think of you is really of little consequence. However you get into the genre, the important thing is that you're there, and that there's someone else out there appreciating the marvellous work of studios like Capcom and Namco. Personally, I welcome fresh blood; it's always an honour to pit your wits and reflexes against talented opponents. I think anyone who criticises you for how you started off is missing the point, so jump right in with both feet. You won't regret it! And, if you ever have any questions, you're welcome to get in touch.
e) There are a lot of people out there who don't follow the storylines of fighting games, and play them solely for the multiplayer experience, but I think there are those out there who take time to appreciate the lore and history of the genre (myself included!). You invest more into playing the various characters when you're knowledgable about what makes them tick, I think.
f) Great avatar! I'm a bit of a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan, myself - when I'm not playing fighting games, I have been known to participate in the odd duel.

I just don't like those trend-following "fans" that only jump on board with things because it's "like, omg, so totally trendy" and jump ship when the thing becomes outdated or I'm just trying to get male attention. Like, I just want regular attention as a regular fan of something. XD
I don't want people getting the wrong idea. I've never had that problem before so I guess I'm doing something right or I'm just not putting myself out there much to find the bad egg.
What kind of book is Eternal Champions? It's quite pricey because it's seems to be mainly from the US and I don't live there so importing it would cost a lot of money. And when I searched "Street Fighter Eternal Champions" an EBay listing for Genesis copies of Street Fighter and Eternal Champions, ha ha!
I'm more of a story and character person when it comes to games. I don't play games for the sake of it, I want to jump into their world and follow characters in their journeys to better themselves or setup the sequel (MK9, MKX and MK11). I even enjoyed the little nuggets at the end of Street Fighter (mainly 4).
Yu-Gi-Oh! is great, GX was better than I thought and Bastion is my fave character from the series, his accent is adorable. I even had to look up the voice actor because I knew he sounded like Brock from PokΓ©mon but he had an American accent for that role. The British accent was so convincing that I had to look up the actor's nationality just to be sure and he was American so I was impressed with his acting for Bastion. I do like the idea of Bastion being English because when he would be successful, he would bring glory to my country.

a) I wouldn't be too worried. You're clearly not a bandwagon jumper; I think as long as you're true to yourself, you're on the right track. At the end of the day, the opinion of idiots on the Internet doesn't really matter - if I let everyone who criticised my interests get to me, I'd never leave the house.
b) My bad! It's not Eternal Champions, it's Eternal Challenge. It's basically a huge guide to Street Fighter, filled with actual Capcom illustrations and source material. The original is probably quite expensive now, but UDON published an updated version not too long ago, so you should be able to pick up a copy for a reasonable price from EBay or Play-Asia.
c) Sounds good! I think a lot of the fighting games experience is actually fighting, but I personally enjoy delving deeper into the lore and history of the games I play. The various artists and writers of these games clearly put in a lot of time and work into fleshing out the game, and I think they deserve recognition.
d) Fabulous - I'm in the UK as well! It's always an honour to meet a fellow fan of Yu-Gi-Oh - do you play Duel Monsters at all?
