Surreal. Who would have though that Jordan could place the traits of irish, apache, and muslim people so effectivly and vibrantly together! I take it your a fan of the nurse Lini from the series?

the Aiel have irish traits too? I didn't realise (perhaps because the native american and beduin elements are the strongest)!

why Lini? did you maybe mean Sorilea? (she's Aiel). If yes, yep - she's such a strong old lady, I love how she keeps all of them on their toes, even the clan chiefs.

Yes, Red hair and blue or lighter colored eyes- not to be racist or anything cause I'm part Irish anyway- are traditionally Irish/Scandinavian traits.

And actually I said "Lini" cause its in your deviantart name. You know Lini... the nurse of Elyane.

oh right! lol, yeah you're right - their hair and eye colours *are* Northern European (I was thinking cultural traits ).

ah! no, the 'lini' bit in my devart name has nothing to do with Elayne's nurse. my devart name is actually a pet name for my real name, Georgia, in greek.

The unusually pale skin is also more of an through back to Irish phisical traits.

You must be a fan of the Illianers in Wot. To me they seemed share a few common traits with the ancient greeks- they and perhaps some aspects of the Tairens culture.

heee - I'm glad you think that of the Illianers; I've always thought they must be partially inspired by greeks.

the Tairens, though, I can't really categorise, except that they remind me of Spain (though that could be because of the clothes and/or the men's pointed beards. ).

I think the Seanchan also have ancient greek elements (or Roman. Can't decide - we had many similarities with the Romans in some aspects). The whole slaves thing... and the omens.

I'm only half way through Winters Heart so I'm still not familiar enough with the seanchen. It seems- with the whole shaving of heads and slaves thing- that they have more in common with the ancient Egyptians, culturally speaking. Their navy of course have the more Oriental traits.

Are the Aiel your favorites? Or is there another nation that strikes your fancy?

yeah I think there's a lot of ancient egyptians in the seanchan too (the dresses are clearly from there).

I pretty much like all nations in the Wheel (except for, maybe, the Seanchan. though lately I've started to like them too. oh, and the Sea Folk are pretty annoying to me), but other than the Aiel, my favourites are the Borderlanders.
But all nations have their good traits.
