I have used Apophysis and the 7X version  that can use the 3D formulas.  Right now I am slowly working with Ultrafractal.  I am limited by the time I can sit at my computer right now so  I haven't posted anything from that program yet.
The groups UltraFractal Redux and Everything Fractal have tutorial links to show how the programs work.

You are welcome to submit your UF work to the group (up to two a day). There are also very many images with parameters in the gallery for you to study and play with. It's all good practice. If/when you feel ready, you can have a stab at our monthly challenges too. These attract all levels of ability.
