Okay lets start:
I take my photos in the manual mode "M". Set the exposure time to 30 seconds and the aperture to the highest possible value (lower numbers like f1/2.8).
The ISO speed should be set to a high value in my case I prefer values between 1600 and 2600.
Switch the focus to manual and set it to infinity (if you don't have a focus scale on your lens try to focus on daylight to a spot far away then switch the focus to manual and don't touch it, simply use the set daylight focus on your night shot).
Important: place your camera on a solide tripod and use a cable remote to take the shot.
