# About me
The art as always been a part of my life; I remember drawing even before I could write. I guess I was born with a gift.
Sometime life takes you away from it, into some others directions or for work or for a career and you end up having to put your brushes away for a while. Therefore, I did so for many years but I choose a career where creativity was necessary and began to work in the beauty industry as a stylist. I became successful but with operating my own business, I could never find enough time to go back to painting seriously. In 2009, after twenty-five years in hairdressing, I put my scissors away and got the brushes out of the closet.
I started painting again;to be a painter remains consistent for me. I tried to work with differents mediums but for expressing ideas through my gift, using oil on canvas is my first choice. I also play a little with photography, my husband and had a photography studio in the Yukon and I learned the trade from him, he is a very good photographer and was specializing in portrait. I did boudoir photography for a couple of year and got quite good at it.
I consider myself an artist regardless of my lack of formal education in visual arts, I never took an art class in my life;I guess this is compensated with feeling in my soul the warmth of the love of the art and the vibrancy of colors. I need to create... Always!
I stive towards improving my techniques as a painter as much as possible and I am working on getting my work seen by more people.
I produced thirty five paintings from march 2011 to december 2011.
I have been a busy bee!
My paintings are always in oils on canvas and are representational. I layer paint repeatedly and I like mixing my colors on the canvas.
Making art heals, teaches, challenges, calms and connects soul to soul.
Throughout the process of creating a canvas, sometimes, I feel an old soul guiding my hand...
My paintings are strictly about marine mammals and the ocean. I have a connection with the water. I am a scuba diver and the under water world is my place to escape from the world above. I love all animals, ( more than humans often ) but whales captivate me above all. I would like with my art to educate and help to protect these beautiful animals.
These mammalian cousins of us are charismatic, intelligent, and often highly social. They are also tremendously important as indicators of the health of our oceans and waters.
I am privileged to live by the shores of the St-Lawrence , in Quebec, where you can observe the belugas whales, the mink whales and the humpback whales. You can see them right from shore, NOT CAPTIVES ,but free in their natural environment.
I am against encouraging marine parks and zoos who are displaying marine mammals for the entertainment of humans. This is unnatural and cruel, I will never encourage that!
I would like , through my work to show the beauty and fragility of these gentles giants, I would like to help people to understand the importance of protecting them and their environment. We seriousely need to realize that all the pollution that we are creating on the ground, ends up in the ocean. Remember that a small polluted stream will end up its journey at the ocean feet.
We live on a planet mostly covered by water and we need to clean up our mess soon before it's to late!
If the whales disappears one day because of our pollution, so will we!
I hope that my paintings will inspire the people to help to protect our oceans... and theirs.

The honor is also mine to have you at my side. Thank you.

Sorry for bombarding you with favorites, but your art is too captivating for me to resist and if I were to comment on all of them, it would get quite repetitive! So I'll just leave you a general comment here:
I love the feeling of freedom I get from your paintings, and it's all the more amazing knowing you want to use your art to raise awareness against keeping marine mammals captive, among other things.
A few years ago, I was about 14 I think, I watched a documentary film about a dolphin named Stephania, that was rescued and people were trying to return her to the wild, but were unable to do it because her natural instincts were too far gone for her to survive on her own.
I had visited the Lisbon Zoo a fews day earlier and attended the dolphin show, and after watching that film, I was invaded by a feeling of remorse. I never set foot in any facility where they keep marine mammals again.
Growing up, dolphins were one of the subjects I loved drawing the most. I ended up specializing in horses (as my gallery clearly shows), but I never stopped having a deep passion and respect for these beautiful animals.
Your art has inspired me to pick up my drawing materials and start drawing marine mammals again. You've revived an old passion of mine, and I thank you so much for that
Recently, I've watched another film called "A Fall From Freedom" that addresses the subject of capturing and keeping whales and dolphins prisoners for human entertainment. I don't know if you've watched it, but if you haven't, I strongly recommend it. It's also a very good film to direct your friends to when you want to show the reason why you don't go to Zoos or Marine Parks anymore.
I shall be following your art from now on, thank you so much for sharing it with the rest of us.

I am very happy that you started the group, just remember from my entry journal, I will not stay in if any one is displaying pictures of marine mammals in captivity. If you do not allow pictures like that , then I will put all my artworks in your group.

I won't except anything like that. This is the Sea Mammal Protection group not the Sea Mammal Show group. I might expect pieces with animals that have been rescued in aquariums and not used for shows but absolutely nothing from Sea world even if the animal is rescued or not.

Quite simple, yesterday I posted a new deviation to raise awareness on the terrible life that the marine mammals kept in captivity are experiencing; my deviation was inspired by the CBC News and the newspaper Toronto Star where 8 previous workers at Marineland park, who were interview and telling the poor conditions the captive animals are kept in. My deviation was inspired by Larry, a poor harbour seal who became blind because of exposure to poor quality water. I had also posted an entry journal on my profile page, a couple of week before that, explaining my views against marine mammals in captivity. It is very simple, as long as people visit marine parks and zoos, they are creating a market, and this market make prisoners of animals that are made to be free in the ocean. So to finish my explication of why I left the group and removed all my deviations from it is:the subject is very close to my heart and CetaceanArts decided that Larry's picture was not suited for them, so since this is not important to try to raise awareness on the mistreatment of marine mammals for the group, then I do not belong there and so my artwork.I would like for you to read my journal entry and go on the web site that I have indicated in it. This will answers your questions.
I am a Sagittarius, and when I take a stand...I really take a stand. The reason of my paintings is to raise awareness, not just to occupy my free time. Sorry again and thank you for asking why, it is appreciated. Sincerely, Jacynthe.

I know your strong opposition towards cetaceans or other marine mammals in captivity and I have heard about all of it before You need to know that I am the one who declined your submission, and I think your reaction might be a tad too extreme. You could have just asked on the submission page why your work was declined and then I could have told you that what you think is not true. I did not decline because I do not find these things unimportant or not worth featuring, but I simply believed this group was not the exact right place to post something like that. We don't have a seperate folder for raising awarenes about animals in captivity since our group is mainly there for showing 'regular' work of cetaceans instead of starting a whole discussion about a controversial subject. Also, a Harbour seal - however terrible its story - is not a Cetaceans and should thus not be submitted to this group. Groups like #SaveWildCetaceans and #StopDolphinslaugther could be better for submitting pieces like that, even though they are also for dolphins. Perhaps you could submit it to #Exp-Marine-Mammals as they also take deviations of seals and sea lions. I did not mean to offend you, I really love your art and not having your cetacean work in our gallery is truly a shame. Please come back?

I have never told you it was not true, I simply said that the subject is controversial. I have indeed read the questions and answers you link to and I have to say I find them very biased and also in some cases not true. I am well informed from both sides and don't need or want to go into this discussion with you. It wasn't the point of my initial comment anyways. I don't see how you can still stand by your actions as I could not even have accepted it even if we were a group specially dedicated to raising awareness about animals in captivity. It's called cetacean arts for a reason: only for CETACEANS and not PINNIPEDS. So I don't understand why you are so greatly offended by the fact you did something that was not accepted by our rules. Anywho, if you wish to leave, so be it

I see your opinion and respect it, any body if free to make any choice and think what they want. In your case it is easy to see that you will not change your opinion, the reason is that you are one of those people that do encourage marine park if I judge by the pictures you exhibit on your profile. So for that reason I will decline your demand for me to return to your group and will not have my artwork displayed there.
So you make your bias choices and I will make mine.

Whoawhoa, now I'm suddenly the biased person? I am always open to change my opinion, but only from trustworthy and honest people/sites. Honestly, I can't stand people that are locked in their ideas and I myself have switched sides many times, now resting inbetween supporting an not supporting marine parks. It's never a case of black and white, only shades of grey. Besides, what do the pictures on my profile suggest? I post pictures of both captive and wild animals so you can't really judge by that. Do know that that group is not 'owned' by me. It is owned and moderated by 6 different people which you could've just seen on the info page of the group. My choices are not biased, and nor should yours be. This is the last I'll say about this, end of discussion. I honestly don't see why you get so worked up about it. If I am indeed free to have my own opinion, you ask for it and I give it, I don't udnerstand why you would block me.
