Well oiled ragsI wore that T-shirt to death,
until the seams began to split
and I didn't care I just stitched
fading panels back together
and darned the holes,
good as new just like me,
healed scars my zebra stripes
criss cross camouflage
decorated skin, patterned fabric,
fit for the jungle whether
monochrome or rainbow,
and it rains here it always
dampens to a shiver saline
leaking from slated eyes,
my garment clings translucent,
shrinkwrapped skeletons hung
from the weathered bannisters
in this house without a roof,
this building that's not a home,
this skull escaping mind wailing,
awaiting dawn’s golden cracks,
waiting for hope's emergence,
waiting for the assault now
vulnerabilities are laid bare,
waiting for pain and failure and
despair chokes my lungs and
strangulates my vocal chords
to silent, rusted wires no
amount of polishing will recover,
this worn out T-shirt suits
this worn out body and
worn resolve
