My friend I told you some years ago yours is one of the few stories I would like to see made into a movie and I still stand by it. I look forward to rereading the story once you continue it. Luckily I saved all the chapters so can reread it. I like that fact you took some of my suggestions and put them in the story. Many authors feel if someone suggests something it's no longer their story anymore.

It would be ludicrous for me to ignore suggestions; I was a grunt, so I can write as a grunt, but being a grunt doesn’t mean I have intimate knowledge of the thousands of other aspects of military operations, especially airwing, logistics, maintenance, etc. If I want realism, which I do, I have to listen to those perspectives otherwise I’m nothing but a hack. There are already far too many hack writers.

I remember one writer who told me in a response that if someone changed one a to an in his entire story that it was no longer his story.Β  If my 20 years in Air Force maintenance can give a writer advice to not change his story but to enhance the reading experience I will gladly give it. Most writers I have given advice to have accepted it gladly and included my suggestions in their stories.

A question. Does colonials use something like Greek alphabet in your fanfic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kelso323 In reply to Emilion-3 [2019-11-24 00:17:22 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I deliberately avoided delving into that subject when writing the story.

In the series, the Colonials are shown, quite explicitly using the Latin Alphabet and Arabic numerals; hardly surprising considering it was produced here in the United States.

If I were to try and ameliorate that 'anomaly', I would hypothesize that the written form of the Colonial languages is as much of an amalgam of visual characters, Greek, Latin, Persian, Hebrew, etc, as the actual spoken language is depicted as being.

Hopefully without sounding too clichΓ©, the tale surrounding it being taken down is... complicated.Β  I'm humbled that you enjoy the story I've written, and regret that I have not been able to return to complete the tale in far too long a time.Β  I will be reuploading it to Fanfiction.net as well as posting it here on DeviantArt.Β  I would consider it a significant favor if you would let me know of any spelling or other errors, or even parts of the narrative that are not as clear as they should be.

It could take a bit of time, but I'll see what I can do, though having investigated the matter, I'd honestly be more inclined to utilize the other nacelles Β morgandonovan experimented with.

One of the things that's constantly bugged me is that there has been no-go between for the Excelsior class from the Constitution class. I mean, was their some sort of design that had more curved nacelle pylons and boxier nacelles, with a thicker neck, and more elliptic rather than a cylindrical stardrive section? I just can't really find one that works, think you can do one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kelso323 In reply to Hardcorev20 [2017-11-11 03:00:02 +0000 UTC]

I know of two designs which might fill such a niche; the Lexington Class and/orΒ NX-1701-A (sometimes known as the Solaris Class)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hardcorev20 In reply to Kelso323 [2017-11-11 16:44:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, the Lexington class Starship is clearly something you would expect the Federation to build to either supplement the aging Constitution class Cruisers, which by the time of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the second ship in the Constitution-class USS Enterprise was twenty-five years old and the majority of her systems were very much outdated or on the cusp of becoming outdated. Thus the Lexington class, although it's going to be named something different because the Ninth ship in the Constitution class was named USS Lexington, would be that supplement being more heavily armed with twelve phaser banks in the saucer, six phaser banks on the dorsal and ventral sides of the saucer, with two phaser banks apiece covering fore on the dorsal and ventral side of the saucer, with the same configuration to port and starboard in the saucer. plus there are eight broadside phaser banks in the stardrive section with four to port and four to starboard, plus two chase phaser banks, plus two forward torpedo tubes each capable of firing three torpedoes apiece before needing to be reloaded and two aft tubes capable of the same thing. Plus the phasers were tied into the warp core, a lot of the technology that went into the Lexington-class -or whatever I am going to call it, although I am leaning towards either Mirai-class or Turbinia-class- went into the Connie Refits.

They are more heavily armed than the refit Connie's which had six broadside phaser banks in the stardrive section.

One of the things I love about writing Star Trek fan fiction is that you aren't limited by something like a Special Effects budget, according to dialogue and what was seen in The Original Series, the Enterprise pre-refit had eight forward phaser banks and six photon torpedo tubes although they could only fire a single photon torpedo before needing to be reloaded. Which means that if Enterprise or a Pre-refit Connie fires an Alpha Strike, it's going to be interesting because of all the phaser beams and torpedoes.Β Β
