no problem! I love your Fire and Ice character sketches. Alot of them look more like I imagined rather then the series actors.

The great thing about steampunk is if it doesn't look as good as you had hoped, paint it brass or copper color and then antique it with some black That'll fix anything!

It was fun meeting you too! I was going over all the con pictures and had to show you two to Scott. I enjoyed talking with you and hope we can keep contact. I'm still manhandling my way through your gallery. I'm blown away by all your stuff!

ya...there's a lot of disjointedness in my gallery. I'm trying to organize things better.
You did say you've moved to the area, right? There is no reason why we can't keep in touch. Plus I'm on all the time....so getting a hold of us should be easy

I actually just moved back to the area. We moved to Durango, CO for his family but the altitude didn't work for us, so we moved back. Keeping in touch would be awesome. I really dig your costumes and your gallery makes me insanely jealous! I'm actually working on a new costume right now, as a steampunk cowgirl and I am trying to go it as cheap as possible. ^_^ Craft foam is going to be key.

BelovedUnderwing In reply to Libra-In-Red [2011-05-31 22:31:45 +0000 UTC]
hmmmm, craft foam huh? I'll poke Jeremy to get the site, but there is this guy here on dA that uses floor mat foam that he found is heat malleable so you can crave it up and use a paint pealing gun or your oven to wrap and shape into damn near anything!! [link] you can backtrack through his progress and see how it works. We're going to be using it for our leather mock-ups on our new Wild Hunt designs.
Where abouts town are you now located? North, south, east, west? We're up northwest-ish in Worthington, just outside of the 270 loop.

(Oh, and Tali for the win. Have you played most of the bioware RPG's or just Mass Effect?)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BelovedUnderwing In reply to Libra-In-Red [2011-06-01 13:41:08 +0000 UTC]
No I've not played them, but I've gotten to hear them all. The boys play then in the living room, where my computer is too. I like the Mass Effect characters better then the Dragon Age folks, but I love the fantasy setting over the deep space...thought some of the planets in ME were really pretty. We've been discussing how to go about making Tali for me, Thane for Jeremy and our roommate Dan into a good Shepard. Mostly talking about using the floor mat stuff. I've a good friend of the family that works in latex and is one hell of a mask-maker. We talking about how to make Thane look real and function at the same time, so Jeremy doesn't pass out from having latex glued all over his face, and how to keep me from fogging up my face plate as Tali.

I am actually an hour south in Dayton, kinda in a smaller outskirts sort of town. I'm gonna have to try some of that floor mat foam. Which is the Wild Hunt designs? Is that still the Oberon and Titania looks? (I've never actually read or watched most of Midsummer Night's Dream...I just know what happens)

BelovedUnderwing In reply to Libra-In-Red [2011-06-01 14:15:30 +0000 UTC]
Damn, down in Dayton Oh well. We can still arrange hanging outs, it will just have to be arrange ahead of time then. But there is going to be a party the weekend of the 10th at a friends house over in Hillard. If you are interested I'll get you the info, if you want. And of course your boyo is welcome too.
As for the Wild Hunt, it didn't appear in Midsummer, thank ye gods for that too. The Hunt is a much older and more wide spread myth. It ranges all over Europe & Eurasia. The wiki page on it is pretty close to most of the history that surrounds the Hunt and the Huntsman, but if you stick your nose into a little fey and pagan lore the Hunt takes on a whole new aspect to things. But what we are shooting for is Jeremy as the Huntsman, with the antlers and the satyr goat legs, and I'm going for a wolf of the hunt. We're using winter as our theme for colors and materials, as well as nature. I'll get getting the preliminary designs up on dA soon. So you can see what I mean.

Of course!
I am very much the same way; I like to be original and want my ideas to be my very own. I actually hesitated before considering even making these because I feel as if I need to be totally original in order to call a piece I make "art". But the perfect-ness, I guess you could call it, of the matryoshka set made me want to create a similar set of my own. Not an identical set, but definitely including all the characters you had.
So, if I do decide to make this, I will make sure it is as original as I can make it. And if I do make it, chances are I will want to publish it. But I will most DEFINITELY post a link back, notify you before I publish it, as well as give a backstory in the description about how I managed to get the idea (You).
Thank you for allowing me to do this. I really appreciate it. And thank you for being so polite. Some artists are rude and stand-offish when requests like these are made. But you were gracious about it. So thank you again.

Aw, thanks. I don't think any artist should be stand-offish. Honestly, if it hadn't been a gift to my boyfriend, I wouldn't be so protective, but it's more for him then me. I still would love to see what you would come up with!
I think art is about inspiring others. Not to the point where you would copy, but at least to get the mind flowing.
I think whatever you come up with will be wonderful. ^_^ I hope you can find the Matryoshka blanks. I would try a "Hobby Lobby" if you can find one.

No problem. I am a big fan of your comic, and was very excited to see that you had a deviant art. I <3 Angora, and I loved being able to look through your gallery to see how your characters evolved. ^_^
You are actually a big inspiration to my own comic...if I ever get it off the ground.
