# About me
My name's Michal Straska. I was born in a small town situated in the downhill of mountains Little Carpathians called SMOLENICE, in Slovakia. But I grew up in the adjacent village HORNE ORESANY. I spent most of my puerile free time in the intimate wood with my friends playing various games and by nature and sky observation during day and night time. These childhood experiences and bearing on natural scenery interested me so much, I studied this kind of specialization at university too - Landscape engineering.During these studies occurred my first art touches. Meanwhile school lessons I drew sketches in my linked commonplace paper notebook, instead of writing notes in it. I usually finished them at school hostel. These first drawings were landscape's sceneries as I saw them in my mind - waterfalls, streams, mountains' peaks, rivers and all with different kinds of greenery. Pending the studies I also drew two portraits. One was a portrait of our roommate, a little bit as a joke, and the second was the portrait of mine.
As I graduated and got employed, I totally neglected of drawing and the enhancement my skills. But everything changed, when there was working on part-time job in our labour a girl named Veronika. It was november 2009. She saw my sketches, which I carried in my bag as an afterthoughts, and among them the two portraits. Immediately she asked me to draw her. I was a little bit scared. I hadn't drawn for 6 years. She was pretty and I didn't want to fall short. But after a few seconds faltering I agreed. I wasn't gratified with the final portrait of her at all. But after I showed the drawing to her, the reaction totally astonished me. She was pleased and enjoyed it a lot. This reaction PUSH ME FAR. Afterwards, I drew another portrait. It was "Bill Cosby". And I was astonished with the progress comparing it with the Veronika's portrait and into the bargain the period between them. It was only about 5 hours. Immediately as I finished it I drew next one. It was another great actor - "Hugh Laurie". And thereafter another portraits. I started to public my drawings on my personal facebook page. Many friends and colleagues saw my works and were stunned with them. Immediately wanted to draw something for them. I agreed. Those were my first orders. Of course they were free of charge.
As I drew more, I begun to be more and more interested in drawing techniques. I logged on different drawing's forums, e.g. drawspace.com, deviantart.com, fivepencilmethod.com. I was starving for knowledge about drawing. I read various manuals and studied many video-tutorials to catch as much I was able. So I do nowadays. But my main teacher, I have to mention, have been during my whole drawing career drawing practice.
Favourite genre of music: all - it depends on the mood
Favourite style of art: Realistic (later maybe photorealistic)
Favourite cartoon character: Naruto

I have been told by other very good artists exactly what you said "try to make my dark shades darker to give my pictures more depth". As you noticed I do tend to struggle with this.
