Way overpriced. I started out with a d40 and what really matters are the lenses you're using. You could go for a d90(900$)which you will get with a normal 18-55 lens and then you can get a 50mm 1.8 (130$) for a start and an 18-50 f2.8 (about 150$) macro for example. That should do for a while and as you can see, you'll end up with 3 lenses + a better camera than a d60.
Then you can save up to get a wide angle lens [10-20 f3.5 sigma] and a telephoto lens (150-500 sigma).
What are you planning on shooting most?

i saw you are photographer for national geografic...? i would love doing such like or extreme stuff in nature. Or i would love doing studio a little but working with natural modeling, less makeup the better... so yeah i would like a camera that can take a lot lenses, but the body for nature and modeling... something like that =] if you can read in the mess that i just wrote to you

For modeling the 50mm is perfect and you can also use your kit lens for now. It also works for nature (close ups of animals etc), as for landscapes as I told you there's the wide angle lens. You can get the macro one which is very affordable as well.
For modeling, I suggest you also get a flash (sb600 which is very good and affordable) that you can use on wireless mode and move around the subject and invest in a beginner lighting kit.

Both are good. I just started out with Nikon and will keep using Nikon because I feel more comfortable handling those. It's just a matter of taste.

I usually work with a d300s for my personal work, for the rest it all depends, d300s and above. For Nat Geo work we use Mamiyas etc.
