A very good day to you, human. I come to you on your day of birth with greetings... and thanks.
My good subject Pinkie Pie told me she had taken to congratulating some humans on their birthdays, but even she has her limits. So she asked us for a bit of assistance... and for such friends of ponykind, we feel it right to provide it.
It is thanks to people like you that our land of Equestria, our very world, exists like it does. It is your friendship with us that gave us life. For that, we will forever be grateful and cherish you.
And so, allow me to wish you happiness, peace, prosperity and fulfillment! My hope goes with you that you suffer no hardship in the year ahead, but should a challenge befall you, I am certain your courage and skill will see you rise to conquer it!
Now... where is she...
Here, sister!
Fashionably late, I see! But just in time for the greetings to be given.
Right! I'm ready. Three, two, one...
Happy Birthday!
And now... let us commence the royal party.

you're welcome, I realised after I posted how stalker-ish my comment was so I'm relieved you're flattered and not freaked out xD
I don't know how anyone couldn't be inspired, I'd love to be able to draw my ideas and characters and really make them characters, you get a sense of every personality or love shared that goes with the work you've done which makes them interesting and great. I wasn't going to make any new years resolutions but I think I just made one, it's your fault but thankyou for the offer of help I will gladly take any advice from you Β

Not stalkerish at all - it's very humbling, really.
Usually it's my fault when a tap is left open and the house ends up flooded, so I'll gladly take the blame for you making a resolution to draw as an alternative!
I actually sent someone a message on Reddit who also asked me for tips. I'll paste it here for you and hopefully it'll help some in getting you started!
---
I've been drawing for a long time - probably ever since I could hold a pencil in my stubby little fingers- but for the sake of keeping my age in my pocket, I'll say that I only started taking it proper seriously in the last 5 years. Before that my art advanced very little because I was stubborn and kept drawing the same thing with no references. You'd be surprised at how you can draw for 10 years like that and not progress at all.
Having done that, my biggest recommendation is: USE REFERENCES. For such a long time I refused to use references because I saw it as cheating. But the thing is, you can't draw what you don't understand and human anatomy is surprisingly complex. You'd need to be a doctor to understand just how much.
Keep an open mind in whatever you do. Nothing is cheating unless you're trying to pass it off as something it isn't: even tracing can be a useful tool, as long as you don't then tell people you did it freehand. When I started taking anatomy seriously, I would trace on a scrappy piece of paper and look at it for a long time - study how the body moved and tried to understand why. Then I would put it away and try to use what I learned to practice. If I still didn't get it, I'd go back to trying to figure out why.
Besides that, references can give you tons of ideas for other pictures - even if you don't end up using that pose or item in the photo, it might make you think of another interesting concept to draw. Some good reference/stock galleries are:Β senshistock.deviantart.comΒ andΒ vishstudio.deviantart.com
Another thing I'd say is to not try to do too much at once. This is one mistake I'm notorious for: I want to do it all, I want to be perfect NOW at EVERYTHING. And then I become an anxious mess because I can't learn 40 things at the same time.
Start with your lineart - master those lines, movement, light sources that way. There's so much you can learn just by drawing the lines right - even shading, by making the lines thinner and thicker. Expressions, the flow of hair... and once you're comfortable with that, try some colour. Experiment, but don't obsess too much about anything too early. It will put you off faster than you can recover.
Lastly, learn how to embrace failure and success without beating yourself up about it. Learn to like your art enough to be satisfied but not enough to get comfortable and lose the ability to critique yourself. Finding the balance between being your own best friend and your harshest judge is very important.
Anyway, I could rant about this for days, but I think I'll leave you with that and hope it's helpful in some way! Always happy to answer any questions if you have more.
