# About me
To rest is easy. To work, there's the thing that mangles jaws in gritting teeth, raises hackles against the dam, against the block of water that heckles sleep, hassles the moving of the grass. I am the letter Q, all for quintessence and disreputable qualities. I am Quemaqua, a meaningless word awash in definition. Give me comments, tell me I'm your favorite, sing me the sums of songless tunes. Pass the llamas, the subscriptions, and let's stay to salt the ego's wounds.Current Residence: Fort Worth, TX

Hello, my old friend. I'm still of this world. I hope you are doing fine. There's perhaps a haiku or two left in me, but it's been so long I don't know if I can still conjure one up. Long days and pleasant nights to you.

It's good to know you're still around. I'm doing quite well. I did 2 years of college, and am attempting after a little over a year off to do a couple more. I moved back to California after 4 years in Texas and will hopefully be going to CSU Chico in the spring. Once I'm done, hopefully will move to Japan (if only for a while) to teach English or do something or other. I don't do much writing these days, at least of the poetic (or fictional) variety, though I do some freelance nonfiction writing and am doing some editing for a small website. Amazing how the time goes. I come back here periodically and never do anything but just poke around and miss people. So nice to hear from you. How's life been treating you?

Likewise! I'm trying to be good and come on more often. Really trying! My inbox is ridiculous, though. Seems half the people I watch post a poem every day. That's like... hundreds of items in just a few weeks. I may need to prune things a bit.

It's National Poetry Month, NaPoWriMo. The whole point is to post a poem a month. Maybe things will slow down in May.

Quemaqua In reply to beeswingblue [2012-04-08 04:16:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I used to kind of like all those things (I did NaNoWriMo twice), and then suddenly I grew to dislike them. It's good if it gets you to work, but I think I came to find the "community spirit" sort of artificial and a little nauseating, not to mention just how many spinoffs there are.
Though I did like the people. I was in SF when I did it and got to eat/chat with Chris Baty and some of the folks who put it all together, help set things up/tear them down. It was a cool experience. For whatever reason the rest of it grew tiresome.
Either way, lots of people on my list have been posting a poem a day for several months now, so this isn't just a recent thing. Many of them are great, but I just plain don't have the time to read that much stuff.

Thanks so much. I wish I could say yes, but at this point I'm so busy with life I barely have time for dA at all, even the groups I'm already part of. I appreciate the offer, but for now I'm afraid I have to say perhaps another time.

Could I convince you to join ? I know you said you have your hands tied up with Transliterations, but this is more of a showcase group than a feedback group, if you know what I mean
Let me know, but no pressure, I understand completely how onerous it can be to follow several lit groups (I follow way too many for my own good).

What exactly is your process? Do you guys review any deviation submitted to a folder and judge whether to feature it, or do you just give people the green light after they've joined the group? Forgive me for being ignorant, with this puppy I've barely had time to work, let alone pay attention to much on dA!

silverfleckedlullaby In reply to Quemaqua [2011-10-30 07:20:50 +0000 UTC]
While we allow members to use their folders as they see fit (which means that yes, people do get a green light after they've joined the group, as long as they adhere to the submission limit), we do judge the submissions on a weekly basis by selecting a few pieces as "lit picks," which are put up in a poll and voted on for the lit of the week award. Since blogs have been converted into journals, supposedly the new news form, I suppose that means we do feature the piece awarded "literature of the week," except the feature will be buried under thousands of personal journals and remain virtually unseen . It does get featured on our front page, though, which is slightly more effective.
We've also just started our prompt series, and submissions for that series will be reviewed and a few choice submissions will be featured in our blog-journal (I'm really not happy about the change, can you tell?).
I hope that made sense. Do you have any suggestions? We've only just kickstarted the group, so we're discussing a lot of different activities we could potentially consider implementing.

I've been meaning to reply to this for days, and I wish I had the time to talk about stuff with you. Unfortunately I just don't, what with the puppy and all. I've barely had time to write, and have totally gotten out of sync with my submissions. Bah!
Hopefully we can revisit this conversation at some point in the potentially less insane (oh please God) future.

Hi! (I have an ulterior motive to this random greeting)
I'm terribly bored, and I want desperately to write and am coming up with nada.

Well that's no good. I'm with you. I just spent two hours dealing with formatting frustrations in trying to submit two stories to two magazines, one of which turns out to be closed for submissions even though their website said they were open.
What do you want to write?

silverfleckedlullaby In reply to Quemaqua [2011-10-26 18:58:44 +0000 UTC]
Have you considered publishing a compilation of your short stories?
Well, a poem, probably, because I generally fail at prose, but I seem to be stuck in this really repetitive funk where everything I write seems to sound exactly the same and revolves around the same old bored, surface themes--it feels like there's no depth to my work, just pretty images. I suppose I'm looking for a prompt?

Quemaqua In reply to silverfleckedlullaby [2011-10-26 19:04:08 +0000 UTC]
A prompt! My dear, have you not seen #transliterations ? It's =zebrazebrazebra 's prompt group (and I have humbly donated some money and tried my best to comment on all the pieces that go in, if I can). I'm actually writing a poem for the prompt right now, and will likely post it in a minute or two.
I know what you mean as far as being stuck goes. Sometimes we just end up sitting in the middle of the same things. Are you going through anything in life right now that might be keeping you in that place?
