They're closely related, but the groundhog, or whistle pig, have no fur on their tails and are slightly larger in size.
In North America, the groundhog, or woodchuck, are used to predict when spring-like weather will arrive.
The most famous groundhog, or land beaver, is Punxsutawney Phil. He got to co-star with Hollywood actor, Bill Murray, in the movie Groundhog Day.

Yes I remember GD - good picture.
We had a groundhog under our backyard shed. The shed's gone now, but I think he or she has moved in somewhere else afew doors up the block. They're very cute, but can be rather problematic on your property.
