Here, there, and everywhere! I'm always dragging home roadkill to clean and hitting up local flea markets and antique stores looking for skulls and such. My friends and family are always bringing me stuff they find too. Plus I buy a lot stuff online from taxidermists and hunters and other folks that find them.

Would you mind taking a look at this skull my aunt gave me? I'm not sure what it is. I've tried to do research on Google, but minks, ermines, and weasels all look the same to me. I think it's a mink, though.

Also, there is one thing I'd like to learn from you (because I've never tried it before and am sort of afraid I might make a mistake when/if I try). If you find a carcass with bits of flesh and meat still on it, how do you get the brain out without damaging the skull? (sorry if that sounded super awkward...)

Removing the brains can be a super tricky task but what I usually do is just get a long piece of wire with a loop on one end (small enough so it will fit in the brain case) and just scramble the brains until they liquify and can be drained out. Sounds tasty doesn't it, haha!
I don't always do that though, sometimes I just put the whole skull into the maceration bucket to rot, but removing the brains, eyeballs, and tongue will definitely speed up the decomp process.
