Good afternoon, Brandon. Guys have a tendency to give unasked for advice, and I've spent the last five years or so learning how not to do that (and the gals hate it when we do!) However, as one artist who appreciates other artists and their creative vision, I'm going to violate my own guidelines and respectfully suggest you have a lot more to give as an artist. This especially in fact for the reasons you give for walking away from it -- because the world is full of caustic ugliness. We creatives carry the flame.

Understood.Β Quite a number of my friends weren't all that happy i called it quits.Β On the bright side, I am trying to return to the 'beginning' as it were. Do some soul searching.Β I wish I could say I was happy with what I found. I discovered that my drive to draw was tied to my sexual desire. As I have grown older, my desire has faded.Β A part of maturity is moving past one's 'base instinct' and elevate beyond.Β So, that is what I am trying to do.Β Focus on beauty, technique, and strive for new boundaries.Β I suppose when one has spent 35+ years doing art, it never really goes away; it just changes.

Brandon, it's my undying conviction that we all -- no exceptions -- were born artists, in the sense of creatives, whether visual, musical, kinaesthetic, whatever. Because of childhood trauma, social enculturation masked as "education" and "growing up", "pragmatism", ad nauseam... most people lose it. I've seen children lose it before my eyes. Many lose it by the time they're adolescents, and it's horrible to see especially when I can do little about it. Since you obviously have it, please don't stop. Yes, I agree we all have to work on our shit. Your ability to make art is a basic tool sustaining you in life, though. To stop making art would be like cutting off your arm. (Choose a better analogy, if you like; but I think you get my meaning.) Anyway, my opinion, given with the best intent from one artist to another.
