Unfortunately it's been a year or so since I last made a journal skin or looked up tutorials but these are the ones I used to recommend to people starting out.  

This is a template for the old journal style which still should work, and is easier for beginners (in my opinion): [link]

If you don't know css before going into this, you may have a harder time figuring out how to do this, and unfortunately I don't know any really good css tutorials, but once you figure out what's going on css is pretty easy.

There was a group I used to be part of that helped me get a bunch, it was something like llama for llama or something, I don't know how active it is now but before people would just go through the members list and give out llamas.
