You probably already have enough schoolwork to do, but could you help me understand what a function is by telling me whether this is true or not?
The definition of Function from Merriam-webster:
A mathematical correspondence that assigns exactly one element of one set , to each element of the same or another set. A variable (As a quality, trait, or measurement) that depends on and varies with another [24 ].
A function has three main parts: 50 x 2 = 100
1. The Input
2. The Relationship
3. The Output
What goes into the function is put inside a Parentheses after the function name.
For example: The value of f (x), for (x = 2), is f (2)
The (x) is a place-holder that shows you where the input goes and what happens to it.
This function: f (x) = x2 takes the Input (x = 2) and squares it.
So the (x2) takes the Input of (2) and gives the Output of 4
This can also be written as f (2) = 4
Other symbols besides (x) can also used.
The function: f (x = 2) = 1 - (x) + (x2) = 3f (x = 2) = 1 - (x) = -1-1 + (x2) = 3The same function, but with (θ ) for the Input's place-holder: f (θ = 2) = 1 - (θ) + (θ2) = 3f (θ = 2) = 1 - (θ) = -1-1 + (θ2) = 3
Whatever the symbol may be, the result will be the same [00 ].
The purpose of a function is to relate an input, to an output.
h(Gear) Gear x 20Km/h
h(2) = 40Km/h
The function takes the input (Gear of the car), and relates it to an output (The Speed, multiplied by 2).

keep kreating then. being independent and self thought might allow you to hone your own unique style different from the market.

FX animation is scary... people take it for granted sometimes, but it's crazy to do! And you did it great!
Oooh I can't wait to see your animation! Judging by your FX work, its sure to be amazing

Vanoushka In reply to Witbik [2012-12-05 16:03:33 +0000 UTC]
hahaha yeah fx animation can be quite challenging! Its always more abstract and less rational then character animation, it seems to me ! Thank you for the compliments! For my movie, I'll be uploading it like in about a year, because I am sending it to festivals around the world so I hope it will have a life there before I put it on the internet! But if you're curious, here my personnal website : www.valevesque.wix.com/portfolio The site is in french and I didnt do the english part already, but if you go in the section "Portfolio" then "Court-métrage" you'll be able to see some work of it! Not animated though, but character design, sculpture, story, synopsis, background, fx test, etc!
Have a nice day!
Vanessa

XD really? FX seems more rational to me I guess because it's mostly motivated by physics... but you gotta understand the physics in the first place that's the hard thing.
You look like you've done a lot of work on your animation! Good luck with the festivals! I'm sending mine too, but only the free entry/premiere not necessary ones, because I'm lazy like that

Vanoushka In reply to Witbik [2012-12-09 05:25:35 +0000 UTC]
hahaha yeah in that point of view its true it can be more rational because its motivated by physics hahaha and yeah understand the physics is definitly the most difficult part to it ! But to me, if I find it more "abstract" then character animation, its mostly because of the mecanical of drawing.. In character/objects animation, you have some kind of a technical protocol to it. You draw key poses, then extreme poses and then the in-between... for me its quite logical. The result will greatly depends on talent and understanding of movements, but once the extreme poses are set and solid, its quite easy to make a good animation.... FX in another hand, like a smoke animation for exemple, is quite more abstract to do, for me,because the approach is more to go through it (you cant really make key poses, extreme poses and in-between for that and its where its more abstract to me) and try to be credible and fluid in the way it moves and changing form ^^ in my head, probably by my lack of practicing, its a little bit more like a "try and mistakes process" ^^'
And nice! Maybe our movies will be screen in a same festival, who knows! And yeah, for now I send it only on free festival and not premiere necessary ones too mostly because for the premiere... I send it evrywhere anyway if I am to be chosen to be screen, I wont know where it will be ....and the free ones because I'm broke hahaha but there are quite a lot actually that are free to enter! (I will probably choose some paying festival too, but Ill be more picky on them... sending dvd everywhere is already costing a lot hahaha! ) Anyway, Good luck with yours!
