# About me

I mostly do fantasy and sci-fi related pencil art. All stories or characters I do are original unless I state otherwise, and generally tie in to one main world I created. I appreciate art of all levels, especially if it's original with an interesting story behind it. I have many, many hobbies, and at times it can be very difficult to keep up with them all!

Hi there Wvasco, thank you very much for the fave, and welcome young imagineer, to the world of dreams.
Well DA, to be more precise, I'm a newbie myself, well I've just been checking over your Gallery, you should never feel ashamed of a drawing they are all part of you that is being expressed, don't worry we all do it, that fear of it shows you that you've moved up another level or two in skill. Even my worst drawing I later gained inspiration of the idea behind why it was drawn, it later created a very beautiful creature once I revamped it, years later.
So if you just remember every time the tip of your pencil touches the paper that the picture is already in your mind, you just have to learn how to express it in the drawing, practice makes perfect coordination between the mind and the hand, confidence in yourself will help tremendously, so be confident you know how excellent your imagination is, just have a bit more faith in yourself to know that you can do it.
Push yourself to the limits every time, don't settle for making do or, scrimping on the background image as most beginners do, but you can cheat a little if its a smoky or, misty battlefield scene, there are umpteen cheats so called but if you do them well they become part of the realization of the picture bringing the character to life, learn different effects by trial and error separately on pieces of scrap paper finger rubbing to create mist or smoke, then erase for highlights, and when its finished, is it really, be your own critic, patience and not rushing are the artists best Allie, you say you don't get much time because of other hobbies, well once your levels improve your other hobbies will slowly lose importance.
Your at a busy time in your life but keep drawing you have the talents, I can see them in your drawings and superb imagination, always find time for them no matter what, I really like your stories they go very well with the pictures you tell them like you were there, thats my kind of imagineering levels, you take care now and make time, all the best, Mike.

Thanks for the advice. I agree with everything said, but there are some things I can't get around. At school, for instance, all my classes are IB, Advanced Placement, or Honors... which means a loooot of homework. I'm also a writer, which is a hobby I don't think will ever fade... though recently I've done much more art than writing. Lastly, I'm going to be a State Trooper, so I have to do some physical conditioning daily. Good health is also just important regardless.
As for the comments on pushing to the limits, I love that and do it for every major piece, the ones without backgrounds are reference pictures. I dislike using shortcuts in art, and make sure to take my time on all parts of the background. Self confidence isn't much of an issue for me, and I keep on finding old stuff I do want to add, but it reaches a point around 6th grade where there's just so much stuff that looks like scribble scrabble that it's just not worth putting all of it up on here.. though maybe I'll put at least some of them in a separate folder here. I'll never forget old works either, and plan to revamp most of the pictures I did in middle school.
Anyways, thanks for all the advice and encouragement. I'm really trying to get everything in my life sorted out to make more time for art, but I also want to stay well rounded. It's mostly the homework that keeps me away though, and there's not much I can do about that without compromising my education.

Hi there Wvasco, your life is really busy by the sounds of it, and its important that your studies come first, I didn't realize just how much pressure you must be under with all of it, but you sound as if you've got it all planned out what you want in life.
I would just concentrate on your other work for now, let your artwork be for relaxation for now, let it become the escape from the stresses of your life and as long as you keep it with you and let it develop on its own for a few years, I wouldn't worry about losing it, its there, and it will always be there for you.
Once you have that talent, you won't lose it, and surprisingly you'll find it will get better on its own as you mature through life even if you don't draw in years.
Shortcuts are simple techniques that get a set result without using too much time up, yes your right they do not always give 100 percent results, but while your still learning that doesn't matter, its to let you know that there are no set routines or techniques that everyone must follow, in art as there are in life ways to achieve results through experimentation, different techniques get different results, there are no cheats really, its just differing viewpoints from different people.
I wish you every success in life whatever you decide you want from it, its your life my friend and you have to choose whats right for you, but please keep in touch, take care now and do enjoy your art, all the very best, Mike.
