Hey, so, do you feel like talking? I was wondering, what is the basic theme of your writing?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XTRQS In reply to doolhoofd [2014-10-16 09:54:16 +0000 UTC]

Talking. Sure. Why me?

Theme? I'd say inseurity, love and the inevitable loneliness of the human condition. Throw in some anger and filthy language and I think you're there.

"It is in fact a mystification to hold the difference between the sexes as the original and fundamental difference from which all others flow or of which they are but metaphors. In doing so, one denies that humans have always brought forth much stronger differential intensities in the artifical realm than in the field of the body and biology. They have, in any case, never considered "natural" differences as anything other than a special case of artifical difference. The purely sexual difference is completely irrelevant; in certain cultures the oppositions warrior/not-warrior, brahman/not-brahman weigh much and much heavier than the sexual difference, they produce more differential energy, they order things with more strictness and complexity. In all cultures but ours the difference between the dead and the living, between nobility and not-nobility, the initiated and the non-initiated is infinitely stronger than the difference between the sexes. In fact, sexuality marks the poorest and pettiest difference with its biological and pretentious evidence, the difference which eliminates the other. Any naturalistic principle of differentiation is necessarily pettier, in contrast with the artificial power of the signs it can never give rise to a precise order, to a ceremony of the world."
- Baudrillard, Fatal Strategies (p. 161-162 in the Dutch translation)

I love him as well. I quote him in all my stuff and I've made six journals with his ideas to date, but no one seems to read it. Saddens me.

That's not important though. You seem like a thinker, someone who chooses her words carefully, so why do you limit yourself to tiny poetical escapades when you could be writing whatever the hell you want?Β

XTRQS In reply to doolhoofd [2014-10-16 14:19:53 +0000 UTC]

I am writing whatever the hell I want. I think it's possible you give me too much credit. I'm not really much of a writer, I just jot shit down when I think about it. I do think a lot, but I don't consider myself a writer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

doolhoofd In reply to XTRQS [2014-10-16 14:35:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh.

Okay.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XTRQS In reply to doolhoofd [2014-10-16 14:46:45 +0000 UTC]

Wasn't that obvious form the get go? I love writing, and I love reading, but I don't consider myself to be a great writer. I mostly write stuff because I need to get it out, or because I find myself thinking of a word or a phrase I really like the sound or look of.

It doesn't have to be a bad thing, right? Not everyone can be a great writer, some of us are just along for the ride.

Well, it's like they say, practice makes perfect and you can't win if you don't play... no, really, honestly, while reading all those fragments I couldn't help wondering what it would be like if you used the words you know to construct something with a deeper message/meaning... I mean, free speech n all, no one's stopping you...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XTRQS In reply to doolhoofd [2014-10-16 15:04:01 +0000 UTC]

I see what you mean. I do think I occasionally try to write shit with a bit more thought behind it but I never feel it's as powerful as the other stuff. What did you think I should focus on, more specifically?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

doolhoofd In reply to XTRQS [2014-10-16 15:25:51 +0000 UTC]

I'm always willing to test-read what you've written and give you feedback and ideas. My first writings weren't that great either, but I try to learn from my mistakes.

The topic can be any subject of your choosing.
Baudrillard did just that: he wrote incessantly about everything that interested him, from women to cars with tailfins, from politics to porno, from cruelty to animals to the theatre of cruelty in the media... Otherness, war, reversibility, simulation, illusion, hyperreality, ... Everything he wrote was an experiment, an exploration. That's why I admire him. He thought. He thought freely and originally, Γ nd aesthetically.

You've got the intelligence and the language skills to do the same.

Love is so boring. Boy-girl relationships are so boring. I'm more into creative experimental theory. Like Baudrillard. He wrote a piece on love in Fatal Strategies, wait, I'll look it up and translate it for you. Brb.

XTRQS In reply to doolhoofd [2014-10-16 11:07:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh, love isn't about boy-girl relationships. More about the fundamental loneliness you feel even around other people. Hang on, I'll read the Baudrillard thing and get back to you.Β
