I thought it was very well written and sad. The whole story of Medusa is an echo of a society long gone that we today still somewhat feel the ripples of.Β

It still happens to enough women and girls to be a problem...! It makes me think of the recent case of Brock Turner; he just got a slap on the wrist despite that he took sexual advantage of a woman who could not give consent at the time! You know it's a misogynistic society when we lament the rapist's "lost future" or "lost potential" and blame the victim and say "she asked for it" (which is ridiculous, because by definition rape cannot be "asked for")!

Oh my gosh, the Brock Turner case pissed me off so much! I was actually one of the people who signed a petition to get the judge out. I thought he was unfit to be a judge when he treated rape like it was a petty crime. But it seemed like the petition didn't do anything.Β
By the way, who exactly is lamenting the rapist? Because I've seen a lot of people, including people I know, condemn the rapist.

By "lamenting the rapist", I mean the reaction when it's a white boy from a rich or middle-class neighborhood who is the rapist: "Oh no, he showed such promise!!!" "How could this happen? He showed such potential!" and on and on, all these "good old boys" types who lament that this boy's academic/athletic future is gone because this troublesome girl is accusing him of rape.
If that makes any sense. It's the reaction when a criminal is a white and/or from a wealthy background, trying to make them look like the victim while overlooking the real victim(s). Like a rising football player suddenly faced with rape charges.
That seems to have been the attitude of the judge. He thought that six months in prison was punishment enough for this "poor little white boy". If Brock Turner was Black or Latino, he'd get a much harsher sentence.
