Three students -- one 13-year-old girl and two boys, ages 12 and 13 -- were suspended Friday, Jan. 9 from Heritage Middle School, 390 N. Spring Road after the school received an anonymous tip that the students had a knife, Westerville police reported.
After being questioned by the principal and the police resource officer, knives were found in the possession of the girl and the 12-year-old boy. All three students were released to their parents, including the 13-year-old boy who did not have a knife. School authorities determined he did not have a knife but was shown one on the bus earlier in the day and did not report it.
The students, who live close together, said they had the knives because their neighborhood has been dangerous lately. A police report said the students may face expulsion
