Yes I am! Your art seriously is flipping GORGEOUS. Like I don't know that my brain can handle so much PRETTY    How long have you been arting?

Haha it really don't know HOW I have the patience to animate but I love it. I love arting, it can be a STRUGGLE though. Especially this quarter. It's been rough, and I'm just wondering if I'm even cut out for this. It's been my dream since I was 5, but there's so much competition.   

Anyway, THANK YOU  . Writing is my stress reliever. I've just worked on it for years (if you want to write don't limit yourself! Make mistakes, get better! I'm sure you are capable!  ) Believe it or not, I actually had a writing and reading disability (or so they say) when I was a kid. I just wanted to be a writer so bad I worked past it.

But honestly you have a wonderful talent! I really hope you go somewhere. Keep working at it!

oh my... hm.. well, ever since I was a little kid I guess.. discovered fanart when I was in 5th or 6th grade, started seriously drawing (portraits by model and stuff) 5 years ago, I'm 3rd year college now, and we just had an exhibition a few weeks ago (the stuff I actually paint has nothing to do with the stuff that's on deviantart and tumblr xD)

Same here Im guessing you're going for your bachelors? I'm in my first year. Ooooooh O.O what do you ACTUALLY paint?? I am curious. And what's your preferred media? 

It's seriously overwhelming. I'm one of the best artists in my school, but it's not very big. I work so hard but sometimes I wonder if I'm even getting anywhere.

actually no, we have a 4+1 program, so next year will be bachelors, and then after that my diploma, and I was thinking of going for my post diploma (masters?) after that, somewhere outside my country, preferably anywhere where I can take the exams in English.. 
First year, awesome ^^ so much left to do... so it's your first semester ever, do you like it so far?

hm.. right now I'm experimenting with gesture, sort of like post-expressionism or something.. mostly human figures, sometimes completely abstract.. I don't really know, this is the first year they let us paint whatever we want (not using models and such anymore) and I'm a little lost in my inner world to be honest my initial idea had a deeper meaning (it would take a little bit more to explain it, I can if you want), but I've sort of let that go for the moment, and right now I'm just experimenting.
hm.. well, we mostly use acrylic because it's the cheapest, but I'd like to try oil more.. but I like any medium  

oh wow, congrats and don't be discouraged, I'm sure it seems like you're getting nowhere now, but trust me, in a few years, you'll definitely see progress

hm... I'd love to have exhibitions, paint commissions, own a gallery some day maybe... and I'm very fond of illustration and comics (that's what got me into arting in the first place ), storyboarding in animation, maybe I'll break through in both worlds, that would be amazing ^^ and yourself? It may be a little early to know for sure, but any ambitions? Maybe you'd make a great story teller and then illustrate your stories ^^

Oh wow! Good luck with that (especially with the masters if you decide to go that route)! Yeah, I mean it's my first quarter in Art School. I used to be a hairstylist so I've had 3 years previous schooling experience (I'm an old fart so). But so far I love it!! I really feel I'm in the right place. It's what I've always wanted to do, as opposed to hair school. I always felt like I was pushing myself to enjoy that. 

That sounds amazing! Wish I could see some of your work, I'm sure you've got some truly beautiful pieces! I'd love to hear about your original idea too! I do believe it never hurts to experiment, it helps to broaden your art skills and think outside the box! 
I honestly don't have much background in paint, which is why I was asking. I'd love to get into it more but I'm not sure where to start. Watercolor has always been an interest of mine. Because painting isn't a focus in animation, it's something I'd have to do on the side.

Honestly I could see you illustrating comics! Your style reminds me a lot of the artwork I see in DC and Marvel. I think you'll be successful in whatever you do though! You seriously have so much ahead of you! I'd love to land a concept art or character designer position. I haven't done much in 2D animation yet but I've enjoyed it so far. I guess if nothing else pulls through I'll illustrate my own books. In the future I'd love to travel around to the different cons and sell fanart in the artists alleys. I think it would be a blast!

oh pish posh, you're no old fart xD I'd say were around the same age then? (god, that's awesome, I'm so clumsy when it comes to hair styling xD my hair won't do anything, it's eternally straight D: )
nice, that's the best feeling, when you test your limits (well, the feeling you get after is the best at least xD)

hm.. well, I might take some pictures and post some stuff on tumblr.. maybe
I know what you mean, painting is a whole different medium than drawing.. well, watercolor can be really hard to control sometimes, I'd suggest starting with tempera or something like that, it's easy to control and can be washed off even after it's dried (it's water soluble after drying still)

Yes, oh god, yes, traveling around the world and doing cons, panels, fanart, books, that's the life ^^

and as for my idea, to try and sum it up a little... I paint figures, which don't necessarily have recognisable faces, and are in some way disfigured? Well, they're not very realistic, so I guess that could be called disfigured in a way.. anyways, I was thinking, since this is something I have a little trouble with (you'll never get me to confess! Lies, all lies!), that those people (women AND men) are having difficulties with their self perception, more even with their body image because of all the things the media are imposing on us nowadays. Therefore, they have lost their identities because of their "obsession" and have no faces, or in some cases, aren't even recognisable as figures. Anyways, I think I'm far from realizing this in a way I'm comfortable with, I have to transfer my idea so that it's understood, but not completely, you know what I mean? Leave some freedom of interpretation for the observer... So for now, I'm just painting figures, trying to free my hand and head :Đ

Cool thank you for the suggestions! I'm always at loss what to do when it comes to painting. I've done a few oil paintings in the past, and they turned out okay. I guess it's just pushing myself to get back into it. I mostly ink and digitally art. For what I'm doing that really all I need. But I feel traditional painting is so beautiful and has so much more heart to it.

That's always been a huge dream of mine! I think it would really push my skills to create art worthy pieces for cons, potentially help get my name out.

Wow that's really beautiful. I think you should really try arting this. A lot of people can relate, including myself. The beautiful thing about art is you have so much freedom. I would keep traveling that route but also remember it's okay to put your feelings and convictions into your art, whether people agree or interpret it the same or not. Don't worry about how other people see it, it may stray you away from your original vision. I doesn't have to be meaningful to everyone. If it is meaningful to that one person, then you've done your job That's something I've had to work on myself.
(Hopefully that makes sense, I'm a little scatterbrained this morning. It's one of those weeks )

and I agree, you can try to imitate traditional in photoshop, but it's not the same... now I love digital as well, don't get me wrong, each technique has it's pros and cons

really, do it, there's nothing stopping you (hopefully)

and yeah, I know exactly what you mean, people don't get that art doesn't necessarily have to mean something to everyone, or at least, mean the same to everyone (our education system lacks visual education unfortunately, otherwise it would be a whole different story..)
