I started in 99 but only did it for 2 and a half years. Since then I have done a season here and a season there. All in all 5 years max. I don't know what your apprenticeship is but mine was.....There you go, The machines are set up so sit there and do a tattoo. In at the deep end. Most Tattooists think that an apprentice should start with making tea and work their way over a few years before actually getting hold of some skin. I think that is pretentious bullshit. If you can draw and see different colour tones as they should be, plus have the confidence to get in there. Just do it. What are the terms you are doing?

lol yea i agree with that. ive been apprenticing since the beginning of this past summer and im really close to getting my license. i know what im doing when it comes to drawing, im just hoping itl translate real well into my tattoos

no sadly i havnt. they r pretty strict around here, you have to have a license in order to actually tattoo anyone and it sucks

Oh well at least you will have had plenty of practice line drawing. The best advice I can give you is..... If your right handed, try to do your first tattoo on the outside of the calf on the right leg and if you are left handed vice versa. It is the easiest part of the body to tattoo on because you don't have to go through the agony of stretching the skin with your free hand. Therefore you can concentrate on the tattoo itself.
