Hello Laurie and thank you very much for ing my Narrow Escape

and for adding me to your watch list. I feel very honoured because I love your work for

a long time. I have all your breeds and hair layers and things around. What for beautiful

products! And you're making these while managing a farm?!?! Wow!

Btw. The CWRW comes from the famous racing horse? Or the beer?

Thanks so much! Your work is stunning!

LOL it is a small farm- just 4 acres, and down to just 2 horses now.

And LOL yes cwrw is the Welsh word for beer- my paternal grandmother was from Dolgellau, Gwynedd. (the rest is all English and Scottish

Yep that sure is a old one of mine- I did it back in 2009.Β  Looks like the version I have posted in my Rendo gallery- I have a had a lot people swipe my images off of that gallery back before I knew better to watermark my work.Β  Where did you see it posted?

Thx!

p1tach1p In reply to cwrw [2018-09-17 16:47:29 +0000 UTC]

I thought I recognized the style and thank God for the watermark there :0 It's in this person's gallery here www.deviantart.com/cher123456/… They seem to take quite a few images off the internet. It's unfortunate that so many people do it too, especially when it's so clear that it's someone elses art. I mean, I would be completely livid if I found my art being reused by someone else without permission not that anyone wants my art because it's bad Β
And of course! I'm glad I was able to find you, it's so hard to track down artists sometimes.

Thanks so much!Β  I will report them. Ironically, I ended up joining DA way, way back when because someone was posting my art as theirs, many years ago....and yeah I know folks hate seeing big ugly watermarks on my work these days, but a girl has to do what a girl has to do It HAS really helped stopped the "bleeding" at least..

Hello! I get excited every time I see an update from you in the hopes that your gorgeous Daz Horse 2 textures are ready! Have they been put on hold for a while?

Oh my... they are soooo close... had them with my beta tester and she talked me into adding more textures Β So yes unfortunately they did get put on hold back in early Sept, in favor of a huge new ground breaking project I am involved in. I can't say too much about it yet but it is going to be so exciting! I will say it is 3d and horse related. Stay tuned! (As for the new UDH2 textures I am hoping for sometime in early February if not sooner if I can. They will be at my new home at HiveWire. I'm just so darn anal so I keep fixing little things on them

Bugger! I purchased the Daz Horse 2 not long ago because I figured your textures were around the corner! XD Not that I do much horse art...it's just yours looked so gorgeous and realistic!

Good luck with your new project! It must be a nightmare (no pun intended) making textures for horses anyway. I've looked at the UV's and gone "Ugghhh!!"

Hi Sparkles

LOL- I'll answer the best I can here! Well I've been using the Daz Mil Horse (and just very recently the new Daz Horse 2) as my base model in almost all of my work since 2004. I mainly use Poser tho I have been learning Daz Studio (which is free BTW) the last few months as I was the one who made the base textures that come with the new Daz Horse 2. Before 2004 I did do conventional drawing and painting, and did equine and other animal portraits for a living for several years, as well as being a professional designer and illustrator for many many years (I own and run my won design/illustration studio/ad agency - llprindle. com). I also have owned, ridden and trained my own Morgan horses for the last 25 years so I study them a lot, especially as they live at home with me. As i developed my style working with Poser and the old Mil Horse I decided I wanted my work to have a more painterly look to it- not 3d art per se. So I use the renders I make in Poser using the Daz horse models as a base and "paint" over them using a Wacom Intuos 3 drawing tablet with Photoshop and/or Painter. All the manes and tails I draw/paint myself from scratch using the wacom which I think adds a lot of their more "illustrative/painterly" style. I do sell those products at my Rendo store as well - Mane N Tail 1, 2 and 3.

I did take a stab at learning how to do my own 3d modeling using Hexagon and Cheetah but frankly I stink Just not my gift. ZBrush is one I might still try as that seems more organic in approach. Modelers get a lot of my respect I stick to making and selling textures for the great animal models

It can be pretty inexpensive to try working this way if you own and have some proficiency with Photoshop - Daz Studio is free and you can get the Daz Mil Horse LE model for free too. My texture sets vary in price range from $10, to $30 for my Pro Pack at Daz. The Mane N Tail packs run $10 and $15. All of my products come with detailed illustrated tutorials as well. A Wacom tablet is a worthy investment if you like painting in Photoshop or Painter. There are many artists who only paint in PS or Painter with a wacom- they don't use 3d models or 3d programs at all. I'm not to that level yet I like mixing both straight digital painting with the use of good 3d models and the Poser program. It usually takes me anywhere from a week to a month to complete an image.

I do have some tutes as well as some videos I made on the Daz Horse 2 - you can find them on my blog at cwrw3d . com. And I have a tute pdf I did on "El Caballero" here (but that was done in Bryce) - [link]

Anyway I hope this helps some and let me know if you have other questions!
Happy creating!
Laurie

Crazy-Sparkles [2013-01-13 07:24:33 +0000 UTC]

You are, by far, the BEST 3D Equine Artist I have ever seen, and I've seen A LOT! Your work looks more painterly than 3D, and that is quite the achievement. I'd never seen it done well before I stumbled across your gallery! You're just.. incredible! I can't even wrap my head around it!

I was looking to maybe get into 3D work, but I was just overwhelmed even when it came to picking the program I would use. (If I wanted to pose pre-made models, like in DAZ or Sculpt my own.) I've heard you need to get a degree to completely understand all the mechanics of it, and from what I've researched, it certainly seems like it!

If you go completely from scratch, you can't sculpt a 3D horse and then pose it how you wish. You need to have an internal skeleton that moves properly first, then "rig" the overlaying skin/muscles or something like that... Just wow. Learning that, I have a brand new respect for 3D sculptors/animators. And I have to wonder, isn't there an easier way to get the same results? It seems to me like with how technology is progressing, that someone would have figured out a better way..

Using something like DAZ and not starting from scratch looks a little easier, but it seems like there is only one good horse model to pose that everyone uses... And, the thing that turned me off the most to it, was that every 3D piece I'd ever seen looked like a posed 3D model. Do you know what I mean? They may have been colored/posed/lit differently, but it appeared (at least to me) that every piece was pretty much the same. Although I have to admit it's my biggest problem spot artistically, every character should have a unique, recognizable silhouette and structure. I have no idea how you could do that with a premade model? I also can't afford to purchase something like DAZ, but that's besides the point.

But you know, not everything is what it seems. Am I making a mountain out of a mole-hill or is it really so difficult to learn on your own? You don't happen to have any tutorials or walkthroughs on your process, do you? That's a resource I would definitely be interested in! If you don't have a tutorial you made yourself, do you happen to know of any good 3D Equine ones you can link me to? Even if they're off site?

Well... this is getting really long. I apologize for rambling but I'm just so excited to have found you! I hope that I haven't been a bother. I am absolutely thrilled to be your newest watcher! You are an inspiration to me, which is something I find very rarely nowadays! Thank You! I'll be fav-bombing your gallery sometime soon!
