Hello there. How are you doing? I saw that you did a coat of arms and I was impressed by it. If you like, you could do the coat of arms of the City of Behrends (which actually comprises a part of the city seal but whatever). It will be featured in my story Twilight Falls for your information. Anyway, the coat of arms features a shield that has a silver anchor at the bottom and a golden maltese cross at the top. The background of the shield is black. Behind the shield are two crossed swords and a torch. The supporters are an otter and a bear. Can you do it? You can add additional elements yourself if you feel like it. Remember to tell me when you are done.

I'm sorry. The past 6 months have been very hectic for me and I totally missed your message. I hope that you found someone to design your city's coat of arms for you.

I don't really have a method to my madness other than I look at a lot of old currency and come up with ideas I'd like to incorporate. Some ideas work. Others don't. Getting proficient using the pen tool and use of blends combined with the zig zag filter really helps. Besides Illustrator CS4 I also use a plugin for Corel X4 called Securidesign. It helps you create some very complex gilouche patterns that I use for some currency backgrounds. I also use paper textures that I create in Photoshop and place in Illustrator to use as paper swatches.
