...and the cake I found upon getting home from work...
...good lord...

...I think my mother may be trying to kill me with confectionery...

On an unrelated note, you still appear to be falling down a hill. 8D

On a more related note, I may be experiencing a sugar high.

Well, you have a definite knack, then! Your backgrounds are almost photographically precise, yet still obviously drawings, and the juxtaposition of bright and dark color really makes it all sing!

You'd be amazed at how much a few art teachers in the past would have HATED the work I do now. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Str8tjkt In reply to niekitty [2017-09-06 08:51:39 +0000 UTC]

You'd be amazed at how ready I would have been,Β then, and remain, now, to tell them to fuck off. Art lesson #1 - DON'T GO AROUND LIMITING ARTISTS!!! Creative people need to experiment and find out what works for them - sometimes rules help, but sometimes they only help others' preconceived notions of what constitutes "art". Just because I don't like something, that doesn't make it any less art. I'm not especially fond of rap/hip-hop - it just doesn't reach me as an audience - but that's fine, I'm not the intended audience. If it touches someone's heart and drives them forward in life in some fashion, then it is art and it is valid and I am under no obligation to either dig it OR try to self-righteously get in the way of the rest of the worldΒ experiencing it for good or ill.

Sorry about the "F-bomb", if it offends you. I'm a passionate man...

niekitty In reply to Str8tjkt [2017-09-07 02:50:32 +0000 UTC]

Normally, I give teachers a lot more credit than most people; I actually wanted to BE a science teacher (money ran out). In the case of MOST of the art teachers I've had, though... no... I can think of THREE that were actually worth being respected. One was satanically strict, but with good reason (realism drawing, with Renaissance masters as the grading scale); another was a freaking crazy German hippie (figure sculpting. ignored school polocy to teach us basic human anatomy, which was meant to be taken AFTER his class); and the most epic metal-sculpting teacher EVER, who had badgered his U into installing a small-scale metal foundry in a back room (there's something soothing about working on a team of five, engulfed in layers of leather protective gear, pouring white-hot liquid bronze into a mold and hoping the bottom of the mold doesn't explode on your boots).
I'm getting off topic... Anyway, when it comes to a LOT of things, people get ideas into their head based around what they like being "right" and what they don't like being "wrong". It's the same system of oversimplification that causes stereotyping. It's GOOD to see someone who is willing to recognize that you don't have to hate something to not like it. =^^=

Also, don't worry about swearing. I try not to swear too often just because it's not necessary and I don't want to get into a casual-profanity habit, but I have NOTHING against it when it's warranted.
And people being idiots is a VERY good reason to swear.

Str8tjkt In reply to niekitty [2017-09-07 05:17:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't worry aboutΒ swearing - I'm pretty sweary. I do worry about offending and hurting feelings with it, though. So if we're good...

And that foundry sounds AWESOME - though I had to take a minute to regroup mentally, when you mentioned the leather. Never mind why. Because reasons, that's why...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

niekitty In reply to Str8tjkt [2017-09-07 07:52:17 +0000 UTC]

Nah, we're good.

And no, it wasn't black and shiny, and it wasn't tightly strapped on. Rough leather in thick layers with cords to pull in case it caught fire and needed to be pulled off fast.
But yeah, the metalshop was sweeeeeeet. It even had a built in ceiling track, so I didnt have to do the lifting! My last project was a greatsword, and seeing as the damn thing weighs about half as much as I do, I NEEDED that track to move it around, some days. Plasma cutters, welding gear, foundry, burnout furnace, molding stations, breathing gear, pneumatic stations, a couple old electric kilns, a whole area devoted to waxworks... That. Place. Was. Metal.
...figuratively and literally.
I didn't get to play with too much leather aside wrapping the grip of the sword, or I would have been making things to... eh... *ahem* "wear".
