May I suggest shibarescue.org?  You will probably pay $200-300 for one, but that's much less than getting a puppy (my ex-husband paid $900 for our first puppy, and that was when the breed was very unknown!), which can run into the thousands of dollars now!  And the ones at the rescue site really need homes.  They may just have a special diet needed, or just didn't get along with the family that got them.  They are very awesome dogs, but they are SUPER smart, so they need a firm (yet LOVING! ) hand.  I will have another shiba someday.  It just doesn't work for me right now. 

I hope you get one!  They are like no other breed!!

I'm in Australia, and wouldn't want to put the dog under pressure getting it sent over.  I'm pretty sure we do have a Shiba rescue over here too, so a rescue would be my first choice! My parents used to breed Jack Russells (and I had my own until early this year, he ended up at the hunt club because he tried to kill our cats D so I know all about super smart dogs who need a firm hand, though I understand that Shiba's are a lot more sensitive.  

I do hope I get one in the end, I admire the breed so much.

OH Wow, I didn't realize you were in Australia - where my heart is, actually.  I have such a dream to get over there.  I'm too old to move there permanently, I think.  Or, close to it.  I'm like...27, I think? I don't even know.  But there MUST be a shiba rescue over there!    You sound PERFECT for a shiba!  They're SO clean.  I got my old man a bath, just a regular bath, at the groomers, and he smelled shampoo-y for an entire year.  It's awesome! LOL  My dogs now, if it lasts a month, I'm lucky. LOL

Definitely let me know if you get one!  I'll live vicariously through you, in the land I wish I was in!

Australia is pretty great... but, I live in Perth.  Literally the most boring place in Australia.  We have nothing.  NOTHING.  And I'm sure you'd be able to move permanently.  I think it just depends on the area.... hmmm.... But, I know there must be a Shiba rescue somewhere!  The problem is, in Australia, people don't really care about animals (unless you're like me), so rescues aren't very common.  But I've found rescues for another of the breed I was looking at (specifically to get along with my cats) - the Bichon Frise - so I'm sure I'll be able to locate one.  And if all else fails, we live close-ish to the RSPCA, and I'm sure that they'd be able to locate one for me (or, even better, if they have a Shiba there).  We have a little three-legged dog who we have to bath every two weeks (well we should, but we don't lol) because she gets dirty so easily (and gets burrs in her fur).  A clean dog would be SO AWESOME.  Clean dogs are the best

LOL Well, must be my hometown resembles Perth, because ... our population is like 500.  No lie.  There's a store, a bank, a post office, two restaurants, a pharmacist, a library, a hardware, and a gas station. LOL That's it. LOL  Talk about boring!  We live an hour away from a big city, so to get groceries, it's a HUGE HAUL. LOL  YARG.

Anyway, CATS!  Shibas usually LOVE cats. They're very cat-like themselves, so I think they'll work great for you!  Aw, little three-legged puppy!  I was going to get a special needs dog, because I work with special needs kids so... I don't know? It seemed right. LOL  I didn't get one though.  Now I just have dogs with severe allergies to corn. Odd! LOL

ANYWAY. I will shut up and leave you alone now!   Enjoy searching for a shiba, if you do decide to!!   Contact me anytime, darling!
