I've been crocheting for about six years, and felting for probably three. I can't fully remember when I started felting.

Felting is when you make little animals and what not out of fiber?

Not exactly, you can felt something big but I don't usually make stuff big because it takes quite a lot of time. All you need for felting is wool roving and then a felting needle(which is just a very barbed fine needle) and you stab repeatedly at the wool roving and make into a shapes. While crochet, you just use yarn and then stuff it with stuffing. I'm unsure if that was helpful or not. I'm not very good at explaining at but I hope it made sense.

okay so it is the thing I was thinking of, I think is very cool. I watched someone do it once a few years ago and have wanted to learn since then.

It is super easy in my opinion. Just be sure to watch your fingers because accidentally stabbing your self stings a lot. I believe Jo-Anne's usually carry wool roving and needles. But for the foam pad I used something my mom found me at a quilt store but I believe craft stores sell a felting mat, but I'm unsure how good it is since it just looks giant brush bristles. I do think there are probably good videos on youtube that would be useful.

It's true what they say. Art is your mind speaking, and the words that are being spoken by your mind right now are beautiful.

Thank you! I have only been crocheting for a year. Each piece I make I learn something new! How long have you been crocheting? Have you ever been to Ravelry.com? They have lots of free patterns to try. When I first started I scanned through a ton of them looking for interesting things I wanted to do.

for 17 years, but it was only 3 or 4 years ago that I learned how to read a pattern. I have and I look at all of them and try as many as I can. I love to try new things. I have done so really fun Civil War era shawls, some amigurumi and some other stuff. How did you get in to crocheting? Did some one show you or did you teach your self?

Wow! That is a long time! I haven't tried to make a blanket type piece yet. Mostly because I crochet very tight and the ends curl up like a piece of paper. Plus I have always loved animals so that is what I pour my passion into. I would love to see your shawls though! I am always amazed at large pieces because I know how much effort it takes just to make my tiny animals!
When I was a kid my grandma taught me how to do a chain only, but I never built on it. I had started seeing really cute little amigurumis on DA and decided to try it. I watched a few videos on how to actually do the stitches, since I only knew how to do chains. Getting the 'magic ring' to work right seemed like the hardest thing ever! I almost gave up because I wasn't getting the concept. After learning a few stitches and trying a few free patterns I got the hang of it and started editing free patterns to learn how altering a pattern affects the finished piece. Eventually I tried to make my own and wah-la! The deer pattern was born

I don't have any photos of the shawls, I do have one of a blanket I made with the Batman logo on it for my sister,I can post the photo, I really like how it came out. I work with animals and I'm learning to be a dog trainer. I foster and help dogs gets homes. I love animals and wouldn't be the same person I am without them. I worked with alpacas and started to learn to spin yarn out of fiber but my aunt who had the farm and who was showing me how to spin passed away. I have now made it my goal to learn to spin and I plan on building my own spinning wheel.

A batman blanket sound awesome! I saw the dogs and alpacas in your gallery. It looks very fun to be on that farm. We just have cows and one horse. My mom always wanted alpacas but cows sell better. I wish I had the time/money/space to foster animals.
Learning to spin yarn sounds like an amazing way to keep her memory close to you. If I had an alpaca I would use the wool for needle felting. Since wool is amazingly expensive for that craft. I have some alpaca yarn, only a little because it was $7 for 3 ounces. It is very soft though.

Cow and a horse are still fun:smile: It was a lot of fun. I really miss the farm. I'm looking forward to spinning.

I usually don't do much of the farm stuff. I'm usually inside doing some kind of art project. I would probably enjoy alpacas, cows are kind of boring haha.
Are you going to spin the yarn and sell it? That could be a good side job.
