I haven't found any tutorials or workshops on this type of work. I had to learn by trying little tricks I'v seen from others. I use to do intarsia and wanted to learn to carve, but was no good at it. I found that I could take my carving(that I didn't like) and cover it with small cut parts of colored wood. I guess you could call it 3D intarsia. I do go through a lot of thin inlay wood to make the scales. I have been asked to make a walk through, so you can get an idea of how it goes together.
