ahh thank you but honestly I'm still trying to perfect my make up and contouring! From what I can see your make up seems pretty good already?!
If you're new to make up in general I'd recommend just checking out a few video tutorials covering all the basics. Without going overboard I think cosplay can be improved 80% just by wearing Foundation to have a even skin tone and making sure the eyebrows are combed through and filled in (also maybe some concealer)
The eyes is probably where the make up will vary the most (along with eyebrows of course!) With this I find its usually just trial and error of trying to recreate the characters eye shape on your eyes. What works for everyone else might not work for you though so its important to see what goes with your eye shape already. I find with female make up some winged eyeliner is usually fine for most looks (maybe white eyeliner on the waterline and some false eyelashes for bigger looking eyes) with male make up I personally find I usually can't wear too much black eyeliner or I look too feminine so I go with brown eyeliner or just use brown shadow on its own instead.
Contouring I think is a little more difficult than other make up to get right but there are lots of videos on how to do this for female and male make up. I think the most important part of contouring is getting the right shade to match your skintone (I'm still looking for mine ) Right now I actually use a taupe eyeshadow in the hollows of my cheeks, under the jaw, down the sides of my nose and in the temples (anywhere there is natural shadow) If you can find a colour as close to the colour of the natural shadows in your face it should work well. Since I am so pale I have to stick with cool toned/grey shades - anything too warm makes me look like I've rubbed fake tan on half of my face!!

Contouring is very difficult for me. Especially when I try to make my face narrower with the cheek contouring, my brother teases me and just says I look old, so mean!
The 'cute' makeup isn't so bad. 'How to ' videos are always super helpful, but when it comes to sharpening the face for characters that aren't supposed to be 'mega kawaii', that is where i encounter difficulties. Any ideas?

If you look too old perhaps it's a little harsh and needs more blending to soften it up a bit? I'd always start lightly and then gradually build up the colour. You could also switch around products and see if that makes a difference? In the past I have used a cream contour and then put foundation on afterwards to try even it out and make it look more natural. I think its easier to try and mix cream contour with foundation to produce a better colour match and also makes it easier to apply in the exact place you want rather than powder contour.
Trying out different brushes to blend might also be worth a shot?

Cosplay is super fun so if you're interested in starting definitely go for it! If you want to just get a feel for cosplay you can buy or commission someone else to make you a costume (which is what I did for my first ever cosplay!) but if its making your own that you really want to do then I'd say start off small with a costume that is relatively easy to make - a good idea for starting out (especially for sewing) is to alter clothes/props rather than making them from scratch, this way you get to practice your skills without the pressure of making the entire thing yourself and slowly you will gain more confidence in doing it. I still do this now with the majority of my cosplays but I'll try and challenge myself to make something more complicated with each new costume. Things may not always go right but I've found a lot of stuff has happened through trial and error.
I'd say work to your strengths too, if you're more of a prop maker then maybe chose a costume with a simple outfit but more complicated prop that you can work on or vice versa. I only just started sewing this year which is something I never in a million years thought I could do (always hated it! haha) so I'm still taking baby steps to improve my sewing! If you have a friend who is into this too getting their help would be a bonus, I had an agreement with my friend for some costumes that she would do the sewing and I would make the props so it got done quicker and it was a lot more fun!
Of course there is always the internet to help you too! Do lots of research on your costume- get as many references as you can and look for tutorials on how to make it, also if you find a cosplayer who has done it before you and you like it they'd probably be more than willing to explain how they made theirs.
