I created the avatar over five years ago (when I was MUCH younger and I won't lie, much less aware of politics in the world) before I understood the politics and history between Northern Ireland and the Republic (to be fair, I still can't claim that I understand the politics now, I am simply more familiar with them and recognize that it is a very complex issue that there are many sides to). When I made the avatar I made it of just the Republic because that was what my research indicated to me was "Ireland," after visiting Northern Ireland I now know that many of the residents consider themselves to be more Irish than British (though there also exist residents of Northern Ireland who consider themselves more British than Irish as well), but when I made my Avatar I hadn't yet lived in Ireland to gain that insight.

Thank you for pointing out the error in my avatar, if I have time this weekend I'll remake my avatar so that it is more geographically accurate, as well as politically accurate.

Cool, where in Ireland do you live? Several generations back I'm from County Offaly, but I studied at UL for a semester two years ago, which was awesome.

It's beautiful and I loved the way you were able to incorporate N. Ireland's history into the deviation. N. Ireland has such a complicated and rough history and I think you really portrayed it beautifully in yr art.

I guess I must have forgotten Northern Ireland. I made the icon several years ago, before I really understood and grasped the politics behind North Ireland and Ireland. When I get back from work today I'll have to remake the icon to include Northern Ireland. Thanks for pointing it out.

Yeah it is confusing but, for a long time most of the people here believed themselves to be irish and part of Ireland as an island. The majority claimed to be british.
Now it's more half and half but, the british side of things still gets priority over anything irish 90% of the time so it can seem like we're happy to be a separate state but, it's not the case for at least half of us lol
