Photographing jewelry can be pretty tough, my biggest suggestion would be to use a camera with a micron setting and try to use as much light as possible, natural or artificial, without using the flash. Flash tends to mess up the overall color scheme.
I've been considering making a 'build your own light box' tutorial, as they're pretty handy for jewelry photos...
