The crowd has been going nuts waiting for the show to continue... they just can't wave anything bright and flammable otherwise the moth folk would start acting all weird.
With the exception of the front row, I don't think the audience knows exactly what's going on. The handful that do are most likely sympathetic and wouldn't think ill of Nae and are more concerned with her well-being.
I wonder if Sayaka was in the audience somewhere watching while she wasn't bodyguarding....

Man, Asami has a terrible way of venting her frustration on somebody, but I still can't help but find her somehow likeable. She's a bundle of iron discipline that wants perfection in every work done. And you can sense a little bit of "humanity" in her when her years of hard work and preparation go wrong. Especially when they do so a second time. Nobody would be happy about this. But having her try a second time after the first failure, at all, seems some sort of relatable humane thing too.
I have so many mixed feelings about her, but Asami remains as one of my favorite characters in this story. She also seems to have helped get Nae where she is now, so she can't be one of the bad guys in my opinion. Not sure where Nae would have been if Asami gave up after her first Geisha.
Anyway, I love your comic updates. c:

Ohhh, Asami's a proprietress! I've been thinking she's a retired geisha. Oops.

She dresses the part(dark clothing, few to no decorations), but the reason I give pause on her being a retired geisha is her worry about her honor. Geisha are very highly revered for their lifetime of work, so much so that even the warlords didn't touch them. But if she made it all the way to retirement she shouldn't have to worry about someone else messing up her reputation. She would be the prime figurehead of her house. Her even as a retired individual would be worth more than Nae. Therefore things Nae does would only reflect on Nae, not her. But as a proprietress she would be seen as directly responsible for her underlings and more tied to her money like she is. She's also very emotional which is a big no-no even in Geisha private time. Being a geisha requires a very humble and restrained individual, which Asami doesn't not reflect at all.
Of course this is all speculation because this is a fictitious work so the author may pick and choose whatever suits them. It was just a revelation for me that Asami may not be the class I thought she was. xD
