Description
“The Smells of Spring”
Tyrannosaurus rex, Trierarchuncus prairiensis, generic enantiornithine bird, generic lepidoptera. An acrylic painting of Helushka, the Tyrannosaurus, enjoying the fresh scents of the spring blooms, being surrounded by various pollinators and their predators. The Trierarchuncus are sticking close to Helushka for protection, since they are too small for the adult tyrannosaur to even bother with as food, but he does keep away the various mesopredators that would prey on the little alvarezsaurids.
I wanted to do a painting of Helushka just enjoying himself as he experiences the change in seasons (I have a few other season specific pieces involving him), so I played around with the idea of him just examining some cretaceous butterflies (which likely already evolved by then) and the pollen rich air.
I managed to finish this in time for the premiere of the new season of Prehistoric Planet, which are I am very excited for. I thought this would be a complimentary piece for that.
Completed in early May 2023.
Done using acrylics, color pencils, ink, and Photoshop 2021.
