“When Day Succumbs, Be Wary The Night”

Tyrannosaurus rex, Quetzalcoatlus northropi, generic enantiornithine bird. An acrylic painting of Helushka, the Tyrannosaurus, taking down a young Quetzalcoatlus that was milling around naively during twilight hours. Using his keen low light vision, Helushka doesn’t pass up an opportunity to tackle the mostly diurnal azhdarchid. The young pterosaur didn’t even see the sneaking behemoth until it was too late.

I started the initial sketch for this painting back in late March 2023, then I decided to start painting in a week prior to the premiere of season 2 of Prehistoric Planet. I thought it would be apt given the scenes from the show exhibiting the confrontation between the tyrannosaur and giant azhdarchids.

Completed in early June 2023.

Done using acrylics, color pencils and Photoshop 2021.
