Description Acadia National Park, Maine

One of very few pictures I took with the digital. The rest were on film.

More to come!

Kodak Z7590 + Cokin P121M Filter

edit: fixed low level noise in the horizon, (hopefully) let me know if you guys still see it.

That's one of my favorite spots in the park..last time we were there, some mennonite women were there on the sand..from Ohio..in the full dress and bonnet.. first time they had seen the ocean.. my wife got such a wonderful shot of that...I wish she had an account here . We will be there again in September..so who knows! Anyway.. Lexi stopped by..so I checked out her great gallery..and since you're her favorite photographer (and husband?)lol.. I had to come look! I'm Dave from next door in Connecticut

Wow...I had no idea Maine was so gorgeous!
On the technical side, I absolutely love everything...except the compression artifacts I can see in the sky! The rest of the photo is compositionally excellent with jaw-dropping colours and great overall sharpness (and I adore what the ND grad filter did to the sky!), but I find the pixellation right at the horizon to be a tad distracting.
Still, it's an incredible shot! And hey, it's made me decide that my road-trip should take a detour through Maine! hehehe

I think it would be better in the fall or the wintertime honestly, but its still a gorgeous place. Its hard to deal with the compression artifacts when you let dA do the resizing for you. Some of it was a little low level noise that appeared after processing, and the compression blew it out of proportion. This was one of the first pictures I took with the GND filter, and I'm quite satisfied with the results. I'm glad you like it, thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy Maine, Baxter State Park up there is next up on my vacation list. Prolly hit it one of these weekends .

RedStonePhoto In reply to AnonymousPhotography [2007-06-18 15:05:56 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes...I see now...I never let dA do the resizing for me! Although I suppose if I wanted to sell prints on here I'd have to change that... *sigh*
Well, for the first time using the filter I'd say that you nailed it spot on! Keep it up!

Saknika [2007-06-13 02:55:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to take a guess and say that the filter was a polarizer, because the image looks like one was used. The polarizer is my favourite filter, by the way. xD It really does help to enhance the natural colours, which is why I think it was used in this simply because of how rich everything appears. The composition is also nice, as is the contrast. The only thing that really saddens me about the picture is that there are no clouds. It would have added just a bit more interest and unique-ness to the shot. But, I can also understand that nature doesn't abide to us. Bad nature... lol xD

AnonymousPhotography In reply to Saknika [2007-06-13 04:40:18 +0000 UTC]

haha, well i know what you mean by using a polarizer, but I actually didn't use one in this shot Its a graduated neutral density filter, i actually forgot the polarizer on the other lens that I had set up.... Thanks for the comment, and I really appreciate it, and yes, nature doesn't always work for us

Do you have a review to give on how you feel about taking pictures on this trip with film versus digital? I'm curious about such things.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnonymousPhotography In reply to mygreymatter [2007-06-13 02:52:39 +0000 UTC]

haha, well I'll tell you one thing, make sure you have a replacement for the 22 year old battery in your camera when you go! I couldn't believe it when I pulled it out after noticing it was dead.... It was labeled from august of 1984 I tell you for sure that didn't help with the exposure metering. The biggest thing I think I learned from it though is that I need a good ND filter to go with my GND filter, and to use stopped-down metering instead of the AE on the AE-1
