This is an incredible commission of Queen Thorn and Prince Smolder from Wings of Fire Book 10 that I had done for me by Kaocalyn

There's art out there of both of them on their own, or with other Dragons, but I don't think I've seen anything with them being together. As they're one of my absolute favorite canon couples in the WOF books, I felt, hey, they're overdue for a photo op. So with the help of the super-talented Kaocalyn here they are!

I really like them as a couple. I think they really can relate and complement each other. Both had tragic first loves, both had their first child taken away from them, both of them went through a lot of Hell during the War just to survive. Since becoming the Sandwing Queen, Thorn's suddenly been thrust into a leadership role quite unlike just being the leader of a gang of Outclaws. She now has to make decisions for her entire Tribe, as well as work on making the new Intertribal Peace work out for all. Plus there's probably all the Royal protocol, rules, and customs to learn. Not to mention the boring but important business of running an entire Kingdom. I mean, who sets and collects the taxes? Pays the bills and payrolls? Oversees the servants, workers, soldiers, etc.? Settle court disputes and meetings with Ambassadors from the other Tribes? Plus, trying to reunite the Sandwings after a 20-year Civil War? I'd imagine it'd be pretty overhwleming, even if Thorn's good at hiding it.

It'd definately help to have someone there who was already used to doing much of the paperwork, and familiar with all the Sandwing laws, customs, protocols, etc. Let's face it, Burn might have been a ruler, but she wasn't interested in much besides the fighting and warfare. Smolder seems to have been pretty much given the job of actually running the Kingdom while Burn was off adding to her scar collection in battle.

It's not surprising that they'd fall for each other. Oh, and before you remind me, "Hey, didn't he try to capture her and Sunny in Book 5?" Yes, yes he did. Under Burn's orders, with the threat of death hanging over him. I have a feeling that Thorn, when she was building up the Outclaws, probably made peace with and worked with many other Dragons who once were her enemies. Not too far fetched to imagine she'd be able to forgive a handsome, smart, (and quite useful) prince who keeps a super cute scavenger pet.

Plus I love how their personalities play off each other. She's brash, bold and forward. He's sarcastic and sublime. Hey, it works!

Anyway, hope you like the pic. I love how the artist has him using her wings to shield her from the setting sun. And the little touch of the shadow of their intertwined tails behind them.
