PERSONALITY

✓ Courteous ✓ Eloquent ✓ Pacifist ✓ Protective ✓ Creative
= High-spirited = Soft
✘ Complacent ✘ Anxious ✘ Gullible ✘ Obvious ✘ Timid

France is a courteous individual who always treats others with respect. She often keeps her distance from others due to her anxiety, but once comfortable she can be very friendly. It’s not hard to befriend her either, as a show of kindness and respect will always put anyone on her good list, while the opposite will immediately cause her to avoid you and anything related to you. This is due to her pacifist nature, she dislikes any form of conflict and would rather writhe in discomfort unless she’s pushed too hard.

When she’s comfortable, she’s high-spirited and is willing to talk to everyone despite her timid mannerisms. Her teaching profession taught her to be assertive when necessary and also how to interact with other people, but even so she still prefers kids and gets along with them more. Despite any distance that she might keep between her and others, she’s still very easy to read and can’t pretend to be aloof as much as she’d like to be. She’s naturally caring to not only her friends and family, but also to people she’d initially dislike. France is unable to leave anyone in trouble, hence making it easy for others to take advantage of her since she’s rather gullible. When slights are targeted towards herself, she often takes them without complaints.

Despite her lack of courage to stand up for herself, France will certainly not back down when it comes to protecting her son from people who mean to bully him. Her primary reason for moving out of her hometown was for her son’s safety and growth, wanting to raise him in a nurturing environment where she wouldn’t have to worry about letting him roam on his own.

As a teacher, France cares for her students and enjoys teaching more than anything. She’s willing to learn new things herself, especially with her move to Toffee Town. Left to her own devices due to the town not having a proper school, she went out of her way to learn about the town in depth in order to incorporate things into her lessons.

HISTORY
Francesca grew up as the only child in a family of three, often being left alone at home due to her parent’s work. Despite this, she was raised and well-loved by her family, albeit the lack of presence that her parents had when it came to actually being there for her. On the rare times that they gathered together for a meal, they were at least interested in what went on in their only daughter’s life, hence France did not mind their absence too much so long as they communicated.

As she grew up, France’s life remained serene and quiet. Her hometown was a quaint port town and the community was tight-knit, so she didn’t have a hard time getting around on her own. The young France did not have any passion and merely went about her day without not thinking much. The first time she realized she wanted to teach was, for her, an unremarkable event. It wasn’t anything special, but she knew it after the first time she taught a neighbors kid when she was a senior in highschool.  A simple life with children whom she thought gave more color to her life was what she decided to pursue.

And so she went on her life, until she met her fated to-be husband at the age of 20. He was a considerably older man in his mid 20s and a hybrid, stopping over their town for two weeks with the rest of his crew before they continued voyaging on their crew ship. They met each other at a gathering held by friends, and France was smitten upon first sight. The man introduced himself as Ewyn, and the two immediately hit it off. Due to Ewyn’s free-spirited and adventurous, France couldn’t help but be interested. A life of travel and new experiences was something the timid woman did not think of when picking out her future paths. Ewyn reciprocated the feelings, of course, and they maintained a good friendship by keeping in contact with each other through pigeon mail. Ewyn would return every few months, since his cruise ship’s path always took them through the same route and consequently, the same stops.

Ewyn always wore a hat whenever he visited, due to being a hybrid. Hybrids weren’t welcomed in the small port town, despite having to receive all kinds of people with different nationalities, hybrids seemed like one of the things they couldn’t stand. Everyone knew that Ewyn was a hybrid as well, due to his very obvious tail. Hiding his ears was one of the ways he could save himself from the townsfolk’s judging eyes, though they still treated him with enough courtesy as to not be rude. All of the town’s residents were human and seemed rather unwelcoming to anything else. A hybrid or two would come upon their shores once in a while, but they were all treated the same, with enough courtesy but refusal to engage any further.

It was on Ewyn’s 4th visit when they made their relationship official. They pursued their relationship with France seemingly unaware of the way her lover was being treated. Ewyn kept this from her, of course, since he never stayed any longer than 2 weeks. When he did, however, it was during his vacation leave which lasted a few months, and he chose to stay with France the whole time despite the cold air that suddenly permeated through their small town’s atmosphere.

People never questioned France openly about her relationship with him, as it seemed like she was just the seaman’s passing fancy. He was never to stay longer than needed, but after two years into the relationship, the two finally decided to get married and start a family. This certainly caused her parents, who were gone most of her life, to suddenly get involved. As cruel as it was, everyone believed that Ewyn wouldn’t stay in a town such as theirs. He knew of what they thought of him and he didn’t seem like someone who would settle their roots in one place. France’s parents didn’t get a say in their ‘sudden’ marriage, scolding their daughter and chastising her for choosing a hybrid to be her spouse. She was certainly hurt, but didn’t relent to everyone’s opinions. Thinking they were just worried for her, since Ewyn’s work did cause him to be absent majority of the time, France dismissed their words and continued living with her husband.

France only felt the extent of their dislike for Ewyn when she herself bore a son named Theo. The child took after his father’s hybrid traits, donning a pair of ears and a tail to match. Whenever Ewyn was out of town, France found it hard to work and care for her only child. All of a sudden, her job as a teacher at the local school was threatened, due to the absences she incurred from needing to take care of her child. Not everyone was cold-hearted, at least, and helped her out with Theo whenever they could. This still cost her, however, as she lost her job when Theo was three years old. Her husband’s work helped support their needs, but she slowly became ostracized in her own hometown, having only a few people to turn to when she needed help.

This caused France to feel very protective of her son, especially when she realized that they didn’t like her husband and her child not because they were foreigners, but because they were hybrids. Some regarded her son with curiosity, but she disliked how Theo was treated like a toy whenever the more curious residents needed something to entertain them. She sheltered Theo from them, homeschooling him and never letting him go unsupervised. The relief that she felt whenever Ewyn came home couldn’t be put into words. Times when her husband was home were the only times that allowed her to relax and even let him play with other kids since Ewyn was disliked, but also feared.

France couldn’t hate the other residents, however, and maintained friendships with them despite the cold treatment she would receive from time to time. At some point, she realized that not being able to teach and do what she wanted without being judged was rather taxing. Her seeing Theo interact with people as he grew up caused her to want to leave as well. Theo grew up as an energetic young boy, but was also made painfully aware that the other adults and kids disliked him due to being a hybrid. He never cried to his mom about being treated in such a way, but that only made his parents worry even more.

When Theo reached the age of 8, he was already supposed to enter school like the other kids, but couldn’t since France was scared he’d get bullied. It was this year that France came across a promising flyer that guaranteed work and a good neighborhood. Ewyn was still out at sea during this, but the two decided that it was necessary for both of them to be at ease. Wanting to have a change of scenery and a community that she could actually thrive in again for her family, France decided to head for Toffee Town in hopes of a better life.
