Sonic + Rain = SONIC IS TERRIFIED OUTTA HIS WITS jdvbsfhjvbfdhsvb
Knuckles= Protection from the rain
Therefore, we can conclude that when it rains on Angel Island, Sonic is going to fall in love with Knuckles, and have lots of hedge-echidnas with him. ;w;

Aquaphobia (the proper name for fear of water) only really extends to water deep enough to swim in, not all water, as far as I know. I don't think he's afraid of rain, that'd be a different phobia.
Then again, I had a fic I'd been writing where Sonic got his fear of water from nearly drowning at sea in a violent thunder storm, which made him dislike storms in addition to water, so that could work. XDΒ

I've watched all of them, though admittedly only a few episodes of Sonic X. Also it probably was X if it was anything because AoSTH Sonic wasn't afraid of water at all (neither was SATAM or pre-SA Archie Sonic, SU Sonic was the only American Sonic who was afraid of water until the Dreamcast Era retcon'd Archie Sonic into having it too)

I don't just make stuff up randomly, bro.
Admittedly, I haven't read any of the Archie comics. subscriptions to stuff like that is too expensive, where I used to live. and now, I'm so far behind that I'm never going to catch up even if I do subscribe.
But I always thought the aqua-phobia thing started because Sonic the Hedgehog was the first video game where you could drown and die in water. So naturally, his personality later would show that he is afraid of water, of more or less all kinds. And in (nearly) every Sonic game, water means certain death, unless you have those bubbles.

That's all true, though now that I think of it, I don't think he's ever actually been shown to actually be afraid of water in the games either. >> I mean it's not mentioned in a cut scene or anything, though then again I haven't played any of the more recent games except Generations. He can't swim, but it's never actually said he's scared of water. The fact still remains that it's only really ever established that he was in any western Sonic continuities other than Sonic Underground recently (AoSTH for example, had a few episodes that involved being underwater like the one involving Merna the Merhog, but AoSTH Sonic had no problem swimming in those, and there is a panel in the early Archie Comics where Sonic is shown going for a swim). On the other hand, it is specifically mentioned that neither Sonic nor Tails knew how to swim in the OAV/Anime movie, but Robo Robotnik said "couldn't swim" not "afraid of water."*shrug* Still it's not exactly unreasonable to assume his not knowing/never learning how to swim is due to him being Aquaphobic.
