Description Volcanic creature concept for Endless Horizon: Online, an upcoming sci-fi mmo!
-

Vahemiths are an impeccable example of just how well evolution can do, in even the harshest of conditions. Reminiscent of Earth’s familiar turtle species, this highly intelligent creature has it’s back enveloped by a stretched shell of a material more durable than diamond and upholds the appearance of volcanic terrain from its younger evolutionary years of blending in with the ground to escape aerial predators. Fully matured adults typically stand at a tall 12 feet high. Contrary to popular belief, their smaller pair of arms are actually vestigial structures, meaning they have not used them for thousands of years, but did so on a regular basis much earlier back. Through brief studies, it is believed that they used them for passing food into their mouth once received from their neighboring, bigger pair of arms that don’t quite share the same range of motion. These nomadic bi-pedals are notorious for staying with their tribal clan for life, and are only aggressive when they are approached or violating their territory. The open crevices along it’s chest act as heat filters to drive absorption outwards to ensure that it’s body can prevent over-heating in such a scorching atmosphere. Similar to the Voldog, the Vahemith does not technically have skin, but a smooth rocky substance that is semi-porous – being yet another silicon-based life-form with an active exoskeleton. Its supporting claws keep it constantly lifted from the ground to allow it to safely cross shallow bodies of lava. Some researchers have predicted this species to perhaps be the very first silicon-based life-form to reach its equivalent of entering an intelligent “stone age” within the next couple thousand years in our galaxy.
