Sorry mate, can't help you there. DeviantArt's a public art website where anyone can see what you post.
If you cannot take that stuff, just don't post here. Alright, problem solved. Thank me later.

some constructive critique on this stamp
the words critique and desired are very small compared to NOT, also, the flashing of NOT makes it very distracting to look at it normally, it took me a few seconds to actually read what it said, might be better to not make it a gif and just keep it as an image

At first I said something here that agree with this statement but overtime realization just hit my face like a truck. This mentality for an artist is absolutely toxic. No matter if desired or not critique is a way to improve. The beauty of it is that it points out your flaws on drawing that you'll never see, plus as an artist it's your choice whether you choose to take it to heart or disregard the criticism you get. The problem with this website is it breeds this mentality that all given criticism is hate and the "it's my style so your criticism is invalid" argument.

Me: "Yeah? Who gives a sh*t?"
Unless deviantArt has a policy where I have to listen, I'm gonna post whatever whenever wherever.

People can be very sensitive when it comes to criticism. A lot of people say that if they can't handle it, they shouldn't have posted their creative things publicly. That's very mean for them to say that to those who have sensitive feelings. If they don't want criticism, then don't bother criticizing and leave them alone. Let them do what they wanna do.

Just don´t pust your art on a public site!
'I don´t need critiques, I see every mistake by myself.' - You can see some of them, that´s right, but it´s always better to let others take a look too. And even if you see and know about all your mistakes - why do you continue doing them? You won´t ever make it in the creative industry, my friend. And if you´re doing art as your hobby, do you think it´s better to stagnate than to improve yourself? I can´t understand this childish and immature attitude.
Putting a stamp like this at your profile and don´t disable comments looks like forcing others to praise your work. The internet is not your safe spot and there´s freedom of speech, luckily.

This is a public art website, so you can't really say that.

Lol the comments are so salty XD All y'all entitled people...smh. I mean yeah, critiques are expected and it's the internet, we get it. But sometimes it's just..like STFU, let us just make art and stop nitpicking every single line, some folks going so far to say what's wrong with the picture with no positive reinforcement.

Then why post your Art on a public site in the first place?

multipentagon [2017-12-21 01:55:29 +0000 UTC]
Then disable the comments and critiques.
Besides, you can control what you post anyway, it doesn't matter if you're only doing it for fun
This stamp completely defeats the point of art because the point of art is to get better, and the only way to get better is to accept other opinions.
Critique isn't bashing, criticism isn't bashing, bashing is bashing and bashing has ad hominem in it.

I for one support this stamp.
This is an art-site, not a professional art-site, and there's a reason you can pick between putting Hobbyist or Professional in your bio.
Some create for recreational purposes, and they don't want/need to improve.

Still not an excuse, as a hobbyist I still want to improve on the things I love to do. saying that hobbyists don't need criticism,
hinders those who want a critique
Those who enjoy drawing for Recreational purposes also want others to enjoy their work
Just like any other people who do recreational activities they want others to enjoy so why shouldn't I need/want to improve?

I mean, it's people's choice if they don't want critique, but good luck trying to see what you need to improve on when you will only know what you see in your eyes and not someone elses lmao
Your loss basically.

I don't understand why it's rude to say the art needs work on some thing just because it was paid for.
And how could you expect people to not point out the flaws in a piece you, yourself, deem as flawed?
👍: 0 ⏩: 0
TheHeckLord In reply to TicklishTouch [2017-07-09 22:52:35 +0000 UTC]
It doesn't really matter if the piece is commissioned or not. Just because the commissioner approved of it doesn't mean people can't add some criticisms to help you improve.
If you post any artwork on this site, it is going to be critiqued whether you like it or not. Maybe you should take these critiques into consideration for a change.

"Maybe you should take these critiques into consideration for a change." Love how you imply that I just plain can't take critique, when in fact I do request it most of the time. But for commissioned pieces where, once again, the commissioner critiqued it all the way through up until they were satisfied, it is rude. This is art that the client paid for, it is theirs to decide what they like or dislike about it. Sure, it can be posted publicly, but I guess what I'm saying is that posting critique on it is pretty pointless. Maybe the client wanted a certain pose that may look weird to the viewer. Maybe they wanted colors that don't really go well together to the 'average' eye. You don't know that unless the artist (or client) confirms it.
Personally, I'd much rather take commissions from people who are willing to be super detailed so that I can get it accurate to their vision, while still adding my own knowledge and style to take that idea and turn it into a well-composed piece. It gets pretty damn annoying when I get one or two-word notes or comments from clients saying "yea cool" or "ok thats fine". I shouldn't have to rely on my audience to decide how I can make someone else's commission look good!
And for fun little sketches or quick stress-relief drawings where the artist KNOWS the anatomy is off, but doesn't have the time or energy to painstakingly make it perfect due to work, exams, or even just having a life outside of making their hand cramp up at their tablet for hours and hours, it can become pretty redundant.
I totally agree that there are too many people on this website who can't take critique maturely. But an artist's reasons for not desiring it aren't always as petty as "they just can't handle it".

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with giving critiques. In my opinion, a critique should be given when the person you want to critique gives you permissions.

I would agree with this, but since this site is full of people who can't draw for shit and go against critiques because they think they're always negative, no one's gonna give people permissions.
