Description I'm still alive.  I've been spending a lot of time working and trying to improve my art.  I kinda crapped this portrait out.  I wish I had done it at a higher resolution, but when I did it initially I wasn't planning to finish it.

Good to see more of your stuff again!

Yeah, shame it's low res because it looks really pretty. I've been thinking lately that I should learn how to do this watercolor effect. I was doing a piece for class the other day and I wanted it to look water colored, but I didn't know how to do it. So I just downloaded a free watercolor texture stock and pasted it in with a "multiply" effect. Looked "meh" at best.

It's about 85% smoke and mirrors, really.  With your texture stock, you want to edit it so that it tiles seamlessly and the darker grains in the paper really pop out against the white. Levels is good for this.  You then apply it as a fill inside of an overlay layer, soft light layer, or inside of a group mask.  It'll give you different looks depending on which type of layer you use.  If you want a variation of pigment in your washes, use a color layer over everything and apply some subtle changes and blend them in. The rest of the magic comes from your brushes.  Try experimenting with different scattering blenders and textured brushes.
