I have just learned that the story of Repunzel is based upon a multi-generational craving for lettuce. Seriously.The princess herself, while rather pretty, was an absolute ditz. After being locked in a tower by her witch of a guardian, sleeping with a random prince who climbed through her window, becoming pregnant from said prince, and swearing an oath not to tell her guardian, she asks:
"Mother, why is my dress getting tight around the waist?"
I love this drawing, mostly because of her dress.
